It has been clear for a while that Europe is not taking the threats from enemies and "allies" seriously – not from Russia, not from the United States. It's been years of evidence of this, since at least 2015: the unpreparedness, dependency and stagnation is palpable.

@edgeofeurope I disagree with your characterisation. For a nation of 6 million people, this is a considerable investment and not just "talk". There is a reason we have held military exercises in Greenland this summer.
