You know, I'm still a bit mad about the picture they put on my Wikipedia article. Back at FOSDEM 2023, some guy walks up to me, asks if he can take a picture. I've been taking selfies with folks all day so I say yes. People are happy to meet me and I don't mind. He takes the picture and leaves. Then months later I find out that blurry, low light, bad hair, bad composition picture is how I will be remembered in the world's most popular encyclopedia.

@Gargron haha, I know that feeling. Random, slightly deranged conference fotos on english and german wikipedia. It seems to occur more often.

Portrait of the face with a weird look, turning sideways - not flattering.

@Gargron Actually, I kind of unterstand. It doesn't look bad, but a chance to show one's best side wasn't given to you.

It's like the picture of the VLC main dev with the cone as a hat: in my mind it's the only remaining image associated with this magnificient piece of open source software.

@Gargron I went through that cycle; turns out the way to break it is to find a friendly amateur photographer who knows what they're doing and get them to post a GOOD photograph on someone else's blog with a wikipedia-compatible CC license.

@Gargron LOL, I sympathise. But if it can make you feel better, mine is much worse: I was sitting at a conference in India almost a decade ago, drawing in my sketchbook after a massive jet lag, when someone approached me and asked for a photo. I only had time to begin smiling, which was a fail because it turned out to be a goofy expression.😆 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Revoy
