Pains me that I just opened two new tabs with intent:

1 - To find local, indie makers of arts and crafts.

2 - To find out the latest updates from my family.

And both of the only places I can think of to get those two things are Instagram (1) and Facebook (2).

And then if I want to message my friends, it'll be WhatsApp (3). I'm trapped in the Metaverse. That's where everyone is. People aren't moving.

@matt @ungrimironfist I've just dropped all those things. Especially WhatsApp is seen as critical infrastructure, but telling people 'I'm not on anymore, you can use signal, call me or send me a text message instead of messaging me' works. I've not missed much since. Plenty of people have followed me to signal, others send me text messages.

It's delightfully good.

And for 1) local artists and craftspeople keep coming up on Mastodon more and more and 2), see signal/sms

@matt I feel this. So many of the independent businesses round here that I use pretty much only use Instagram. They all have websites but they're usually weeks out of date.

No. They are not. I still moved. Said fuck this shit and left all Meta apps. Its like 7 years ago now. Someone has to be the first, we probably won't be able to do a big migration off those platforms, and even if we could, people would scatter.
