@bazkie Yeah, I understand. But I am afraid this is never gonna change. It may be a bit like in the offline world: When walking on the street, It's much easier to find food than information on nutrition. To find a such information, you would probably go to the university, or go find a book in the library.

Likewise, there are places where you go for information online. As you're dutch, you may visit, e.g., tweakers.net for certain info, wikipedia or some subreddit for something else.

@bazkie Well, for the particular problem I think you're referring to, I have slightly more positive experiences with #kagi than with other search engines. (it helps when you are the customer, not the product) At least kagi lists all these "listacles" so you do not need to fight your way through them.

@DePemig hmm I once tried kagi, but I was a bit disappointed that I had to pay for it, while it still was pretty much a proxy for bing. I'm not sure if their own search indexer is more on the fore these days tho. it's hard to test since it's behind a paywall :p

I am all for the idea of a paid search engine btw, but then I prefer to not have it do any front-end'ing for bing/google.

@DePemig yeah, that's how it should be! (and used to be)

but similar to how amazon is destroying small businesses, the major platforms are destroying small sites with specific information..

people either don't bother to make more personal websites anymore, or they are hard to find because of enshittified search engines :/

we used to just add "reddit" to a search query, but now reddit is becoming enshittified and more walled off too.. AARGH!

ah well. I just stopped looking for this specific information (a painting question) and tried myself, and else I can ask my painting teacher.

@DePemig (case in point btw; I was on tweakers when it was still a hobbyist site; now it's commercialized and a bit of a cesspool when it comes to the "community", the quality of the reviews etc.)

I miss the old internet!
