Happy Halloween from your friends on the COBOL maintenance team!
@tessarakt @Habrok42 Alas, no. Their arms are too short to reach the doorknobs. All they can do is hope for a meteor strike.
@sjvn COBOL maintenance team by day… Portland ICE protest crew by night! 😁
@sjvn dinosaurs in that they are very old, but not dinosaurs in that they are extinct. Lots of ancient COBOL is still running and doing vital service.
@sjvn Prompted me to go check -- and, yes, the Debian package repository has a Cobol compiler.
@sjvn hello happy Halloween 🎃🎃🎃
@sjvn Is that still a thing? I know COBOL - probably one of the last to be taught it :p
@RavenLuni It's still alive and, well maybe not "well," but active anyway in banks, insurance companies, the IRS etc.
@sjvn I didn't knew that Dinosaurs can code! 😀
@sjvn
Two fingers typists ?
Was just reminded this week, in a couple of months [16 Jan], is forty years since I started my first full time job. A COBOL job.
Were did you get the team kit?
@sjvn happy Halloween, from new York
@sjvn Pft. Bunch of dinosaurs coding COBOL. Not surprising
;)
@sjvn This is what all offices will sound like when voice interaction with office computers becomes standard.
Since there's no ALT text: The image shows a room with dinosaurs seated at desks, busily operating modern-looking computer equipment.
@sjvn I do not believe you guys didn't get the evening off. Thank you for working for us. Happy Halloween I will eat plenty of chocolate just for you
@sjvn
And I thought COBOL was extinct!
@sjvn Happy Halloween 🎃 let's get things pumped up
@sjvn One of your monitors should have dressed up as a line printer and one of the keyboards should have dressed up as a punch card reader.
@sjvn No one in this room is able to use shortcuts🦖
@sjvn
I so love their self irony 🙌
@sjvn Aren't T-Rex a bit young to know COBOL?
@sjvn 👏😀
I worked on COBOL on VMS once and endured "Are you out of the working storage section yet" from an officemate using PL/1 and a believer in "throwaway code" (appropriately, it was unreadable gibberish).
