Google Docs has a handy “Copy as Markdown” feature where you can paste rich text and then copy it out as (at least mostly reasonably-formatted) markdown. This is handy for quick and dirty conversion of a web page’s content, e.g. to quote in a blog post.

Is there some native app on Flathub I can use to do something similar? The perfect scenario would be just pasting rich text into a text field and it immediately converts it and spits out the Markdown into the text box.

@cassidy I’ve always used Turndown for this, their demo page is what you’re asking, I think?

Not on Flathub though. 😅 Maybe it could be used as a basis for a native app though. 😊

@cassidy #ReText is my MD editor it choice. It has a live preview. It is available as a native app in most #linux distributions. It is also available via #flathub.

@cassidy OnlyOffice is on Flathub and can accept rich text paste and then export to markdown (though not directly to the clipboard, though they might accept that as a feature suggestion)

@cassidy I don't know of an app that does exactly this, but I might be able to rig something up with pandoc.

If you can't find something that does what you want, I'll take a swing at it.

@ajroach42 it looks like Morphosis from @monster does document conversion using Pandoc… I wonder how hard a paste input would be to add? 🤔

@ajroach42 I went ahead and filed an issue; idk if it's something @monster will want to support as it expands the complexity a bit, but it was worth writing down at least. :)

@cassidy if that doesn't work out, I can hack something silly together sometime.
