In the US, those who are unaffiliated with any religion overwhelmingly vote for The Democrats. Whereas those who believe greed is a sin, overwhelmingly vote for the guy who is building a gold-gilded ballroom worth 300 million dollars, while taking away health care from the common man.

That blows my mind.

@randahl The primary appeal of #Christianity over other religions during the Roman Empire was the ability to avoid #accountability.

@randahl i would say this group has probably isolated itself from all media so well, that what they hear is only what they are supposed to hear. they have pulled the wool over their own eyes more successfully than anyone else, taking orders only from god, whose place, as every wasp christian knows, is color coded fire truck red, not blue like satan's domain

@randahl

The US is undergoing moral corruption, and the evangelical 'Christians' and their narcissist billionaire preachers have led the way.

@randahl when I look at this then I do not really think this is related to religion but more with you're 'white' or not. For example, Hispanic catholics are more inclined to vote blue.

Not surprising.

These are the people for whom morality is imposed externally - "if I didn't believe I'd go to hell, what would stop me murdering people?"

Someone with no innate morality is obviously going to lie and cheat as much as they believe they can get away with, and who knows what they are going to do when Jesus is not looking...

Who would this kind of person vote for?

@randahl It's because religion is nothing more than consciously and deliberately suspending critical thought to favor fairy tale bullshit that makes you feel better. That's why I make no apologies for my atheism. Religion is shit. It poisons everything and ruins people. Jesus is a fuckbag just like his asshole father - these are facts if those two characters actually existed.

@kristen_d you are always welcome to give it to me straight, Kristen.

But personally, I do not criticize religion this way on Mastodon. Not because I am not critical of religions, but because for some people, their religion is something they care deeply about.

You may argue, that a lot of fucked up leaders have abused religion to all sorts of bad deeds, but please do not forget, there are also completely normal, good people like you, who just happen to also be religious.

@randahl I have a whole family of completely normal people who follow christianity. They aren't the least bit offended by my sentiments because they live and behave in ways that reflect the gospel - not the bullshit MAGA variety that is shoved down everyone's throat. All decent people, religious or atheist, should be deeply offended by THOSE bags of shit.

@randahl boosting: this is super important to know & should be widley spread.
On a personal note: OMG I really didn´t know Mormons are the 2nd worst. It is contradictive to their beliefs. Thinking again though I recognioze a pattern: they strongley suggest not to drink coffee because of the caffeine, but they drink cola, b/c when the rules were 1st written, cola didn´t excist & thus is below the radar (this is the explanation I received from a mormon bishop). Maybe they even invented hypocrisy.

@randahl why is that hard to grasp? people who can think critically about the world vote for the objectively better option while people who have a lot of practice getting their dumb asses kicked by deception get deceived.

the solution is for Democrats to beat the liars at convincing those gullible assholes into supporting them, even if it means lying to them. because that would be lying to help, as opposed to the Republicans who lie only to abuse the power they gain from it.

@djohngo I specifically tried to weigh my words carefully so as to NOT say religion itself is the problem.

I am just stating the fact that there is a significant overlap between those who claim to be religious, and those who vote for the guy who himself has recently stated, he will never get into heaven.

And I find that highly paradoxical.

@randahl @djohngo I think both factors are important to consider. It has never been a secret white people are drawn to the Goofy Odd Posse, but the very extreme route of march currently cannot be based on just 1 factor.
