@_elena - important to coil the cables properly to avoid tangles, best neatness and for longest life of them too 😊 https://youtu.be/3uhfo8TrKQo?si=l2l-0_Q_uKXRADyt

.
bonne chance Elena...
@_elena now I'm tempted to pull out my own box of random cables and see what lost treasures I come across in there 😂
@_elena Using the labeled bag for cables is a game changer. It also forces me to only keep as many cables as can fit inside the bag. They also stack nicely inside a tub like that. It's great!
@_elena At least you have the cable for your label maker so you make labels for your cables.
Discovery of the day - at the bottom of my maze of cables: this #iPod Mini with a Firewire 400 charger <-> 30-pin dock connector.
I literally gasped when I saw them (both the iPod and the cable/charger).
I'm so curious to (re)discover what's on it!
@_elena nice find! My iPod Nano works / syncs great as does a classic. And the 30 pin cables are not rendered useless by pocket lint like my phone. https://flic.kr/p/2pJpXW4
@_elena I also recently found a 30-pin connector and an original iPad in my obsolete parts bin, which has been turned into a very low resolution dashboard.
@_elena An elegant weapon, from a more civilized age.
@_elena Depending on the model, there are also interesting projects about modding, to bring new life to iPods!
@Smarshak oooooooh do tell me more please!
@_elena I got the main idea from this Wired article:
https://www.wired.com/story/ipod-modders/
There are also some interesting videos and guides around but what you can actually achieve really depends upon the iPod model...
@Smarshak thank you! I just found an old iPod shuffle too... will look into this!
@_elena it appears as if some starling or Sparrow or goldfinch has taken all your USB and HDMI cables, and turn them into their own little nest. Be aware if you see any tweets out there haha
@_elena You are cable shaming me! 🤣
@_elena Oh yes 😊 ! Love that idea of using a dymo for that. Is this plastic bags to put them in
And navidrome is so good for music, but be warned: it only gets information regarding the music if *each* file has the right metadata directly in it. So, if it's not the case, you'll have to add/manage it yourself.
@nrdufour thank you for the heads-up Nicolas! Would you say that Jellyfin is better for music in this regard?
@_elena Well, jellyfin is rather OK for music. It does retrieve metadata from outside rather than your files directly it seems. So it's like a trade off.
Basically when I imported my music into navidrome I saw a sea of albums with no cover anywhere (except a few). Then realized most of my files were lackings those inner tags. So I had to use the tool named "Picard" to massage that data (I'm still not done). Once this is done, it looks better in navidome.
@nrdufour thank you for letting me know! Which system would you recommend for music? Navidrome or Jellyfin?
@_elena Hmm, tough decision. I love them both. Navidrome seems more for music lovers and "purists" if I could say. It requires work, but once done it's a bliss. Jellyfin music support works right away, but sometimes lack a few things.
I would say it depends how far you want to go into the rabbit hole ^^
If you already have jellyfin in, keep its music library setup 😉 you'll be able to compare.
@nrdufour thanks! would you say that Jellyfin retrieves the metadata more easily? Like it does for movies?
> Update: I found the micro HDMI cable right away but now I feel I need to continue organizing my cables 😅
This is great, sometimes we just need the initial trigger to bring ourself to movemmouvement and action :)
@_elena I was litteraly just doing the same, even with the same label printer! 🤭
@_elena Be careful with the Dymo! It"s addictive and you can easily end up labeling EVERYTHING. 😂
@ohnequatsch oh I know! my father gave it to my 4-year-old as a present (because she loved playing with it this summer) and now we have labels on EVERYTHING. Just random numbers and letters 😂
@_elena DIY old school walkman ;)
@_elena good luck sorting your usb cables. 🙏🫂
