European Commission

Enough warnings. It’s time to act.

Europe’s seas hit 21°C in spring 2024. Arctic sea ice shrank by four times Poland’s size in early 2025. And sea levels have risen 228 mm since 1901.

But Europe is taking action:

✅ Emissions are down 37% since 1990
✅ Renewables power over 24% of EU's final energy use
✅ Improved air quality is saving lives

The planet won’t wait. Neither should we.

Text on top reads ‘The oceans will claim what we fail to protect’. European Commission logo at bottom right.

@EUCommission
I am still surprised that the EU commission under Von der Leyen is one of the stronger forces in the EU to keep up the advancements in measures against climate change. Please keep it up (well better would be to increase measures more).

Do not comply with those seeking to destroy and profit from it.

Fight them.

@EUCommission I feel like rising sea levels is the least of our problems. Terraforming the earth to be inhabitable is much more pressing, in my opinion.

@EUCommission maybe we should redistribute wealth better and stop with the endlessly growing economy paradigm…

@EUCommission “It’s time to act”
It’s actually way past time to act. These kind of measures are decades late. The only viable course of action would be stopping fossil fuel use NOW. It’s not happening, so future is bleak. My advice to people: enjoy your life while you still can. Prepare for the worst.

It’s sad to come to these conclusions, but just listen to scientists that study climate, and you’ll see it too. Be well, and try to do your best.

@EUCommission It's time to act? For /whom/ to act. Us?

We're not the ones pointlessly using AI generated images and pushing capitalist growth.

@EUCommission

Please, don't use pointless, AI-generated images, probably created for this post only, which also gets the scale completely wrong, when the report you are linking to already contains lots of informative images, of which one could have been used here instead.

@EUCommission please don't use AI generated images to make points like this, it's deeply hypocritical. The scale is also way off and the image is misleading.

Do better.

@EUCommission if your post wouldn't look like scammy, AI-bot-generated misinformation, that would help a lot if you want to appear somewhat credible. Does anyone in your PR-team have a rough understanding of how 23cm look like? Hint: Not like in the picture.

@EUCommission The bigger problem is that we're running out of fresh, drinkable water. Why not combine the two issues in one and set up solar-and-wind-powered desalination plants on Europe's coasts and pipelines to move that water inland to where droughts are happening? That way the forests stay green, people don't die of thirst, and we might even be able to refill the natural sources of water we've been overusing?
