I learned the basics of Injection Molding from The Crafsman Steady Craftin in 2021, and I had the equipment on hand, and I had some time to burn, so I started making Injection Molded toys.
Well, "I"
at that point, it was me and Sundog.
So we started making toys.
Those first toys were, honestly, pretty bad. The surface finish of our plastic was garbage, we were blowing up our resin printed molds after fewer than 10 figures, sometimes after just one, the sculpts were ... well, they were the first sculpts Sundog had ever done, and they were notably amateurish, the paint jobs were bad, the plastic was the wrong texture, and the paint just kept flaking off.
And, to top it all off, we were cheating. The toys used a 3D printed internal skeleton to hold the limbs together!
But we did it, we made some mostly injection molded, jointed action figures. I took them to Assembly Required Asheville and I sold a few, and I got super sick, and I spent most of the next month in bed.
Over the subsequent months, me and Sundog dug in our heels and started addressing those problems: We found a better plastic (thanks Dynamic Modifiers) and learned a lot more about mold making, ultimately going through 60 iterations of the mold design that produced our first 100% injection molded action figures.
"Ethics aside..." *knocks your favorite mug on the floor while maintaining eye contact*
In January of 2025 I sat out to make injection molded action figures.
I was burnt out after more than a decade in tech, I was exhausted by the direction the industry was headed, and I really just wanted to do something real and joyful that didn't involve AI or making money for some far off billionaire.
I'd been making toys, resin casting, in small batches for years. Hell, I started kitbashing with Lanard SPACE CORP figures when I was 7 or so, but I'd been trying to make toys in earnest since 2019.

Good on The Times for continuing to report on this, not allowing Trump to intimidate their journalists.

@jeffjarvis More importantly, why isn't this diversion of money to his toy being called out for the waste and distraction from the REAL AF1 replacement program?
Making lots of progress on mkosi/sysupdate builds of @elementary OS 9! Shoutouts @jumpyvi and @nikodunk
@Wallflower Sorry, luv! Have you looked into their website?
@farah
No!
Apparently they have a few.

The surveilance nerd in me wants to know if captured Nazi prisoners of war have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and if the FISA court would have granted a warrant.
“I do, we do, you do” has been a helpful model for me.
@JMMaok @drkariljordan that’s a good one! Reminds me of "see one, do one, teach one"
@farah
Me
I needed to hear this but I don't know if the Ben & Jerry's will assure me gluten free 😔

We report: the morning clouds are slowly dissipating, and the light that they were catching is now spilling out onto the ground, puddles of sunshine everywhere. We shall soon pause our cloud-watching session, as our eyes are watering from the brightness.
@jdp23 (though i wish mastodon offered a visual diff along with the change history)
@mawhrin this is a difference between the centralized case of Facebook (etc) and decentralized social networks. In a centralized situation, people report the malicious change, and the history makes it esy to verify that yep it's malicious, and it gets taken down quickly. And they're doing automated filtering, so in the really egregious cases it like putting the kind of violent images that give people nightmares in people's faces, it's likely to get taken down before anybody even sees it.
In fedi, there generally isn't any automated moderation, so the images are going to propagate. And if the post is from a self-hosted instance, or an instance with malicious admin, then the reporting and takedowns have to happen on an instance-by-instance basis -- which not only exposes thousands of moderators to the grisly (or racist, or anti-rans, or whatever) stuff, but also means that it's going to be up on most instances for a while because volunteer moderators don't always respond instantly.
Even in cases where it's only disinfo, it's not really clear how much the history helps (other than allowing reporters and moderators to verify that it's changed). Most people don't check the history of posts, so if they see something that somebody they follow has boosted -- or has been widely-enough boosted to get into the trending lists -- they're likely to believe it. So I really do see it as likely to get exploited at some point.
Ok I am excited! But you can really tell that Prime Video is run by SOULLESS CORPORATE DRONES who have no sense of art or creativity because the OFFICIAL TRAILER ends with barely a beat & then cuts to the dumbest perky music, no doubt mandated by some vacuous marketing suit. https://youtu.be/0Dr8I_RyRCg?si=RTBSobTTlgC8cxmF
@ethanschoonover That music was certainly jarring. It’s also surprising to me that they’re doing a 3rd season of Rings of Power. I thought that was canceled.
I dunno who needs to hear this but Haagen Dazs shrunk their ice cream size. Bought Ben & Jerry’s just on principle

@SteveBellovin EO12333 would apply, had it been in effect.
The British SIS, later known as #MI6, was both known for the most advanced skills in SIGINT and a ruthless elegance in performing.
@farah Wasn't Ben and Jerry's also recently designated part of the "deep state" or "antifa" or some other such nonsense? Another reason to buy it, I love subversive treats
@jerbear Yeah one of them was blacklisted by DHS(?) for being in a communist wedding??
