@Miraz Yeah, that's my usual experience! And I'm probably checking the news on there multiple times a day. I'm kinda wondering if something's changed, like they've decided to treat logged-out users as AI bots until proven otherwise 😕

@inquiline @fivetonsflax @Maritime I found Sand's The Ratline a really interesting read about how people deal with the crimes of their families https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/may/03/the-ratline-by-philippe-sands-review-on-the-trail-of-the-nazi-who-got-away

For a start, as with GST and CGT exceptions, taxing income above a threshold has got to be more complicated to administrate than a blanket tax on all income. It also creates a new perverse incentive to hide income (eg via creative accounting, or working under the table), keeping declared earnings under thr tax-free threshold.
But more importantly, I worry that it creates a potentially-divisive gulf between those on benefits and other very low incomes, and everyone else ("taxpayers").
Oh, and ...

That interest.co.nz article is from 2023. It it really an accurate summary of what the 2026 policy says?
We handed out about 100 KN95 masks today. With the air quality being about 632 here in Oshkosh. When we went out to start handing out masks this morning, the air quality was at 315ish. We handed out some to the Oshkosh state street city center, who hosts some of the unhoused and bored folks here in Oshkosh. We did go throughout the city today and handed out as much as we could. Hopefully this whole smoke thing will be over soon.

@meg I’ll bail If I get to 20% and I find nothing of merit (especially no charters I’m curious about and no plot in evidence.)
@troublewithwords That's a good rule of thumb. I had read this author before, so I gave it longer than I probably should have.
I hope US Airforce pilots refuse to bomb #Iran civilian infrastructure which is a #WarCrime but, sadly, it appears they haven’t had the morality to refuse to partake in #WarCrimes so far.
Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Cowboy & Skeleton Pin. Huh, I don't remember this scene in Brokeback Mountain.

Thanks for this thread. I'm particularly interested in your examples of why AI it is not a useful technical term (and we should be referring to specific tools instead) especially within the context of critiques of AI as a marketing term.
I'm collecting resources on this topic (for folk not on Mastodon). Anything you'd recommend?

A US zionist, Josh Keller, is representing the Australian Academic Alliance Against Antisemitism at the Royal Commission on how Australian universities should enforce speech on campus. He claims that mentioning Israel’s occupation is antisemitic if Jewish feelings are hurt. Insanity!
