Let's first clear up a couple of terms that are often mixed up.
Vivaldi Webmail - the email service we offer to active community members, where you get a YourUsername@vivaldi.net email address.

Vivaldi Mail - a mail client built into the Vivaldi browser. You can add almost any email account you have to it to manage your mail conveniently in one place.

To keep your Vivaldi account active, you need to log in at least once every six months. Doesn't matter to which Vivaldi service.
For example, let's say you actively use Sync and check Vivaldi Social every few days, but don't log into Webmail for 3 years. You'll still have access to your mailbox after not having checked it for years.
Another example, you log in to your mailbox once every 5 months or so. Your account on all our services is still considered active.
Should your account be deemed inactive, you'll receive a couple of reminders to the account's recovery email address before it's deleted. Once deleted, there's no way to restore the account or its data.

@stefan the data for each of the apps lives where it lives - it's not particularly important, what matters is that the outbox contains a full repository of a user's activities, no matter by which application they've been created. That's what a PDS is.
@mariusor Well on ATProto, a PDS has all your data.
To me, that's huge. It means, you can easily switch between apps that do the same thing. And the data is always yours.
It sounds like you're saying that the fediverse version of this would only have your activity, so only a portion of the data.
In that case, an app shutting down would take portion of your data with you.
With a PDS, someone can re-create the app (re-host it, if it's open-source, or just clone it) and you can keep using it.
PDS is honestly an incredible concept. Huge fan.
This is a map showing fire risk in the summer season in Liguria, in 5 discrete risk classes. It's an official map https://geoportal.regione.liguria.it/catalogo/mappe.html?typeEvent=detailFromHome&idmap=1454
The original map is a GeoTIFF with three channels for RGB colours. Querying a point will show data like (255, 153, 0) which is useless.
I did some GIS-fu with QGIS, rgb2pct and the calculator to obtain a 1-band raster where each pixel has the value corresponding to the risk class. Then I applied the Cividis colour scale.
I quickly followed up with the Zonal statistics tool to gather specific info about fire risk in archaeological sites. This will help us to focus maintenance work where it's most needed, like it's 1826

Ahhhh, German Open Sourcers. I use (have used) quite a bit of Good Bits out of Deutchland projects. They tend to have brains and ethics.

The war on general purpose computing is to ensure you and I can't use software to fight back. We've pretty much completely lost that war already. Nearly every one of us carries a portable telescreen everywhere we go. How do you think ICE is finding people to arrest? I'd say deport, but deportation isn't their main tool.
