Dolly Parton's scientific, public health, and educational philanthropy was so significant that @nature is running a piece on the impact she had.

el fediverso despide al negro en muchos lados pero esta radio se puso la 10 y estan pasando temazos
They are lowering US flags to half-mast for a week, but if the government really wants to pay tribute to Dolly, they should fund education, the arts, and medical research instead of trying to eradicate them.
In Tabor, Iowa, a school board erupted for what would otherwise be a routine vote to hire a slate of new teachers.
Why? Because a teacher was trans.
The school board decided after hearing comments not to hire him, even though he already set up his classroom.

@barryovereem Welcome to the community, and thanks to @pgoetz for making me aware you're here.
It's been a great place to learn new things and meet interesting new people.
With that in mind, I highly recommend you follow @lisamelton. She's been a great source of interesting posts from around the world.
@stevevrporter Thank you for the recommendation! 😊🥰💖
A rural New York school district has teamed up with a crypto/sex doll company to deploy a "lifelike" robot and avatar teaching assistant in the classroom this fall. https://nysfocus.com/2026/07/14/new-york-humanoid-robot-teacher-salamanca-school-district
@taylorlorenz While this seems like an excellent set-up for a video of Daft Punk covering Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher”, it may not a great idea IRL.
Cute trick, apparently old but I didn't know about it: you can have Union Find with union-by-size or union-by-rank without an extra array, at the cost of 1 bit per element. That bit stores whether that element is a root, in which case the rest of the bits store the size or rank, otherwise the rest of the bits store the parent as usual.
reference (but they do it slightly differently than I explained it): https://eecs.wsu.edu/~ananth/CptS223/Fall2009-webpage/Lectures/UnionFind.pdf
@harold Ooh, I didn't know about that trick either. I'm amused that in Rust this is "free" in the sense that, if you store each parent index as a usize, the most-significant bit is unusable anyway, because only the positive values of the signed version of that type are allowed as array indexes in that language.
Little miss 7-1/2 left her brain all over the microwave today
@jpm Miss 7-1/2 has great writing for her age! ❤️
@alexchapman @Orinks I saw that once, unfollowed the station right away. LOL and it was an FM too.
putting 70-megabyte MP3s in my website git repo, why not
"large files" is relative
@brooke Not to be confused with:
"Large filles" is relative.
That's just a terrible, French, "Yo Mama" joke.

@Orinks To be honest people are complaining over nothing, its a game, not a radio station posting every now playing status every 2 minutes lmfao.
@alexchapman @Orinks I saw that once, unfollowed the station right away. LOL and it was an FM too.
@ferrix - Both really. I'll be setting up brackets to determine how much "coaching" it needs and setting a level of expertise to it.
@tinker I'm sure that's necessary and thinking about doing it makes me want to be retired

it's wild to see people who moderate for like 3 digits or more amounts of users not understand a very fundamental thing from the days of forum moderation: If someone becomes a JAQ-off or otherwise disruptive about a particular topic, they are anti-that-topic.
They're not simply being uncharacteristically rude, they're trying to sabotage the conversation.
If the topic is people talking about how bigotry affects them? the user's a bigot, & you should ban them

@Orinks people just need to nock it off, their's been a lot of that lately. People just need to learn how to use server filters. If their client doesn't support them? Time to change to one that does! End of discussion, full stop, thank you for fucking playing.
@winterknight1337 Ah so that's a thing. I wasn't sure
@mttaggart yep! Its opt-in client side after you auth during setup. But it’s there. I’d be surprised if very many people have it enabled.
Now I may not be a 300 IQ social engineering guru, or a marketing wizard.
But I'm pretty sure in this dire times, using LLMs for code doesn't benefit you as an open source project.
Like you can chit chat me all you want about your "increase in productivity" but I don't think that's worth becoming more dependent in large corrupt companies and get backslash by the same community that you should benefit from.
