like… LLMs… do… exist. they do stuff. interesting and confounding stuff and stuff worthy of research, if not, in my opinion, net-utility useful stuff. machine learning and previous iterations of "AI" are unambiguously useful in various contexts. I never hear skeptics saying that transformers or neural networks or whatever "aren't real". and yet the industry doth protest WAY too much.
Earlier this morning, I posted a video of the Ukrainian drone group Magyar's Birds eliminating 3 Russian soldiers.
I have since deleted the post, and here is why:
On one hand, I find it important to convey the truth that Putin is sending his soldiers to die. This is why Russians should help stop this war.
On the other hand the video was graphic, and in spite of me using a content warning several users still clicked and reported feeling sick having seen the video.
I take that seriously.

@randahl So, as someone who got in touch about the video, I have to say that I’m __not at all__ concerned about the content warning. I ignore CWs. Because they don’t deliver what they promise anyway – they’re just clickbait.
In terms of content, it simply doesn’t fit with the channel, which usually posts well-presented, more analytical pieces.
The channel has no need to resort to clickbait and tabloid tactics.

While true, the challenge of moderation should not be underestimated.
@juergen_hubert exactly. That is why it is essential to not rely on big servers. Effective moderation does not scale linearly for any given instance.
Say you have a pretty big server with 10 moderators. It becomes a challenge to moderate consistently due not only disagreement amongst moderators but also the diversity of the people using that server. Furthermore big servers are bigger points of failure where bad management can cause a high impact defederation.
But, if you have 10 smaller servers each with just one moderator but together supporting the same number of people there is more flexibility in moderation policies to address the diverse needs of those people.
There is a sweet spot between like a dozen to a few hundred people per server. If you went full peer to peer (basically all single user instances) it doesn't foster community. Get bigger than 500 or so then you start having the challenges above.

Le fedi a un problème avec la tech, notamment sa partie blanche et bien installée (qui travaille dans la tech ou sur la tech)
Un problème de biais, qui devient en même tps un pb de privilèges. Parce que câler son discours sur la tech c'est s'attirer des opportunités matérielles (qu'on le veuiille ou non).
Cela précisé, tu peux suivre #BlackMastodon ou @fedisee pour écouter les quelques voix non-blanches qui résistent sur le fédi.
Je dis bien écouter. Pas venir les saouler, ou les solliciter hors de propos. Se taire, c'est bien.

And by "interesting thing" I mean a total wild guess from me. The only juvenile I ever saw again after it left was Junior 2023 who returned not once, but twice.
