no i think thats different. open source as a game is diffent. he started it and it was on him to shape it however he wanted, but there is no money in that, so he is now a milliinaire and it has been decades of influence.
...i cant really say much about the details when it comes to the linus of today, but politics and also corporate management or VC funded entrepreneurship is a very different incentives beast
the world depends on linux and it has funders and they will lobby and make the rules and if there is no compliance they would probably find one way or another to fire linus or stop funding him and inviting him or do anything ... so there is a lot of power and once you are near retirement and have your life - will you risk shattering all of the convenience and make it uncomfortable and see your image attacked from every possible angle for what exactly?
its not on him imho
This server and instance seems to be flying again after that kernel update the other day. Maybe 6.12.101 was just a fucky update and 6.12.105 fixed it. Or maybe it's a sign; five is my favourite number after all. :-)
@quixoticgeek @WizardOfDocs @fazalmajid
History doesn't repeat itself, but it dies rhyme. There are reasons folks are making comparisons to 1930s Germany. Fortunately, we haven't had this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives
@allpoints @quixoticgeek @fazalmajid I see. Yeah, my education was a little more focused on the Night of Broken Glass.
Juts curious, as anyone seen any proprietary protocols or hardware reverse engineered by clankers yet?

Milo "ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections, and government buildings with on-the-spot deportation of anyone unable to prove they were legally in the United States." Yiannopoulos has been busted by ICE. The really odd sound you hear is me cackling like a manic.

Nothing to see here just the actual US government posting word for word Nazi slogans
@serapath @distractal *lights face from below with flashlight* linus has always been malevolent and evil. he's only showing his true face now. 👻👺

Kalshi can't evade Nevada gambling laws by calling bets "swaps," court rules
Judges: "Placing sports bets, even when called by another name, is still gambling."

@arstechnica surprise surprise
behold: the serif cannot die, but lives on in shadows of unwashed concrete
the british home secretary has the power to deny entry through UK customs to any non-citizen, including members of the french far-right, and i hope that they do: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/aug/28/french-far-right-leader-jordan-bardella-address-reform-uk-party-conference
fuck nazis. it wouldn't be the first time. in 2009, the then home secretary denied entry to the netherlands' own Geert Wilders, another neo-nazi:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/feb/12/far-right-dutch-mp-ban-islam
let's hope that the labour party of 2026 has as much or more guts as the one that existed in 2009. calling the french national rally neo-nazis isn't even theoretical, they were literally originally the national front; they once shared a platform with the UK's erstwhile BNP (british national party).
yes, i want nazis to be prevented from, you know, existing. fuck nazis.
if governments just openly denounce nazis like they did in 2009, and openly denounce nazi ideology like they did in... 2009, instead of sucking up to them like they do in 2026, then maybe we might, you know, send nazi ideology back where it belongs: 1945.
we'll see.
i'm not sure what to do about Reform UK though. perhaps call them traitors, and proscribe them as a terrorist group. it's what i would do, if i had access to that button. i would ban them from existing. there must be a myriad of laws that could be used to derail them. incitement to racial hatred for example, which is a thing in the UK, and quite punishable in the british courts, if only it would be actually, you know, enforced. that's just off the top of my head.
i hope one day to wake up in a world that went sane again. for now, i will just keep calling nazis what they are: nazis
if it talks like a nazi, walks like a nazi, has policies to deport legal citizens like the nazis did, and generally feels like a nazi, then he's probably a fucking nazi, wouldn't you agree?
i digress.
As demand for rare earth minerals grows worldwide, residents in Thailand say they are paying the environmental price for an industry that operates beyond their control. Nearly 800 unregulated mining sites along Mekong tributaries are potentially threatening waterways across the region. These sites pose a risk of contaminating rivers with toxic materials, including arsenic and cyanide, as well as heavy metals like mercury that can accumulate in river ecosystems. [VIDEO]
