Okay this just came up on Bluesky and it's hilarious and I kind of like it.
- Use AGPL with a narrow CLA that allows the project maintainer to redistribute as proprietary without modification or derivative work rights (this is key, it's what prevents the rug-pull/enshittification).
- Add premium features to the (AGPL) codebase, gated behind license checks on licenses signed with a private key
- Sell corporate customers non AGPL build+licenses for the premium stuff
- Everyone else can just patch one line of code to use the premium features under AGPL.
This is quite literally an "extract money from corporations with dumb lawyers" hack. The AGPL already allows anyone to run the code without modifying it, they gain absolutely nothing from paying, legally speaking. But since those customers are allergic to the AGPL, it works in practice.
I'd be on board with this kind of setup.

Und das kam jetzt so oft vor, dass ich da ein System vermute. Und wenn Du die Antworten liest, fühle ich mich bestätigt, dass da was nicht stimmt.

If an "AI" company can sell you access to software that will replace a $250k/year software engineer. They're going to charge $249k/year for it.
That's how capitalism works.
Well, they're going to charge $20k/year at first, during the land rush phase. Wait for some competitors to die off. Keep it low a while longer to kill off the incumbents. Then it'll jump up a bunch, before finally being even more expensive than the original thing.

I made a tool that converts open source code into LLM poison: https://codeberg.org/timmc/scraggle
It mutates Rust source code in ways that *preserve* the ability to compile the code. (That is, you can't detect the changes by looking for compiler errors.) For example, it switches `+` and `*`, or `==` and `!=`.
If you fork a Rust repo, run this tool on it, and push it somewhere, then crawlers will end up ingesting all sorts of incorrect code.

Huh. The act of typing this made me realize just how tired I am of all of it.
It's so similar to crypto/web3 when for a year or two everyone kept telling me that I was just dumb or lacked vision or just didn't understand shit and when it all crashed as I had predicted, hurting the people I predicted in the way I predicted everyone just moved on to "AI". The same motherfuckers doing the same shit.
Burns you out.
And we laugh at the people who were burned in the great tulip craze and crash centuries ago...
