[Libre accès] Donald Trump va abroger jeudi un texte fondateur pour la lutte contre le changement climatique aux Etats-Unis
@strypey depending on what you mean by AI, it's PLENTY locally practical 😊 And if it's not, well, that begs some questions about whether it's appropriate.
@aimee
> depending on what you mean by AI
I mean generative models, in particular. Heaps of automation that comes under the more general heading of AI can be 100% free code and run on-device or onshore.
> if it's not, well, that begs some questions about whether it's appropriate.
Exactly!
If you have a Ring (Amazon) camera, you are -- or will become -- a tool of the surveillance state. Is that really what you want to be?
What could possibly go wrong…
Can't find it now but there was some galaxybrain post here about "as a norwegian I just can't understand how the US is governed by a pedophile!!" as if the norwegian royal family was not also heavily implicated in the epstein scandal
Narrowly, the fight over the habeas petition to the district court revolves around the Trump regime’s effort to use immigration statutes that limit federal district courts jurisdiction. These statutes make certain determinations by immigration courts reviewable only by either federal courts of appeal or the Secretary of State. 8/
Habeas petitions must be heard by federal district judges, so the Trump regime is effectively arguing that lawfully present asylum seekers detained and confined by ICE fall outside the protection of habeas. 9/

@strypey @lightweight @AdminKirsty @artnacrea yeeep!
I did my part internally, including by repeatedly warning against the dangers of vendor capture; to no avail. The tech and procurement and management peeps don't care (or become indignant).

This is the problem we need to solve. MBA pod people with buddies working for DataFarming corporations, and total dictatorial control over govt IT procurement ( @lightweight wrote a couple more thorough and well argued blog posts on this).
We need to go over their heads by making it a political issue and getting laws passed to protect digital sovereignty, as EU are. Thus the OP : )
@dada Bravo !
J'ai été regarder les épreuves, ça a changé depuis les années 2000...
@le_bleu Ah ouais ?

Ukraine has begun planning presidential elections alongside a referendum on any peace deal with Russia, after the Trump administration pressed Kyiv to hold both votes by May 15 or risk losing proposed US security guarantees.

My favorite musical motif across the rich history of music in video games is, without a doubt, Corridors of Time by Yasunori Mitsuda from Chrono Trigger. Here's a great performance of it that's absolutely worth 3 minutes of your time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKCWgkJCU3o
An excellent finish to the recent edition of the Tunnel training. Seeing powerful new tightly secured censorship-resistant VPNs born and singing, each able to serve hundreds of people that need it (or even functioning as private LAN layer atop public Internet infrastructure), gives me such a buzz each time.
Congrats to the participants, focused and determined. This is reclamation of Internet infrastructure and the fundamental right to privacy in action.
Photographers! I have a question. If you were to travel with your fancy camera, and only take one lens with you, what would you bring?
I'm leaving Monday on a trip, and I'm considering narrowing it down to one lens. For context, I have a Canon R5 mirrorless, and a pretty decent selection of lenses. I'm interested in what you'd being regardless of brand though.
Boosts appreciated.
@kattni @vmbrasseur I’m a cheap amateur photographer, so I have an APSC camera (Sony ZVE10).
I mostly like to snap pictures of people doing something, so I like to have rather narrow and focused pictures.
My 50mm prime lens does the job (with the 1.5 crop factor that’s “equivalent” to a full frame 75mm).
If I were richer I’d buy a zoom lens in the 20-70mm range (still APSC), as long as it can open at a constant f/2.8.
