BREAKING:
After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back.
And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post.
They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately.

Washington Post Ordered to Reh...
@SteveBellovin @joebeone @paul_ipv6 aha! I do have it on @internetarchive as a single audio file plus a slide show. https://archive.org/details/RTFM-Uni-Stoll Now in state-of-the-art mp3 format!
@SteveBellovin @joebeone @paul_ipv6 looks like he’s wearing a pocket protector in that talk. Now, that’s class! I see he hasn’t slowed down at all … I recorded him in 1993.
Cliff Stoll gave an incredible DefCon talk 40 years after finding the $0.75 accounting error that started cyber defense, using 1987 NSA transparencies, and sharing how he traded Saturn photos to an operator for call data. A true legend.

EFF and 7 civil society groups have written to a UK police force calling for an immediate halt to its planned rollout of live face recognition. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/08/eff-and-civil-society-groups-call-nottinghamshire-police-halt-live-face
@Oldmikie Abandoned buildings are useless for data centers. They need to be purpose-built, and land not near appropriate water and power sources is also useless to them. And again, renewable energy sources are a drop in a bucket to their power needs. On site nukes could provide the power, and that is one approach being pushed, but as a recent internal GOP study noted, data centers are as popular to the public as nuclear waste.
@lauren I think that is bullshit. I spent decades in data centers and there is zero reason server racks, and customer cages have to be on purpose built land. Renewable energy sources are options. And saying the only way is to burn fossil fuels is nonsense.
Boston area peeps: Now is a great time to get rid of that Ailanthus tree that you've been meaning to cut down.
The spotted lanternflies are arriving and they're going to turn the area under that tree into a black, sticky/slimy mess. The lanternflies just *adore* Ailanthus, and as they feed on it, they poop out sugary sap onto everything below. Some kind of black fungus then goes nuts over it.
(They eat other stuff too but it's not as intense. And Ailanthus is itself invasive.)
@jamey I have not, but that sounds very cool -- I'll see if I can track it down.
@Unlikelylass oh, the YouTube link I shared was to a copy of the "Human Power Station" episode of some British show I'm not otherwise familiar with called "Bang Goes the Theory", and that episode is what I was referring to. They put a house next to a warehouse, filled the warehouse with stationary bikes with hub generators, and wired the house to be powered by the bikes. Being able to measure the power consumption of different things in "number of humans on bikes" was a great way to visualize it, and they had several other tricks throughout the episode.
"Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale"
And they really, really don't. It pops the bubble for me, Star Trek is one of the worst for it.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale
Original Star Trek was notorious for the ‘The Enterprise is the only star ship in range of this thing, even though the thing is near the heart of the Federation’ trope. And the ‘we are exploring months of travel beyond the border of the Federation but we popped home for lunch’ trope.
Shout out to my bike, which costs nothing to own, nobody can tell me I can't ride it, and there is no legal mechanism for the state to take it ransom.
The amount I have to pay to continue to own the car I already own is less than the lifetime costs of my bike, which ive had for more than 20 years.
Whoever made this is a genius.

is there a nice library (transport agnostic) that runs in a web browser where i can make a ballot, cast votes and see results ... some sort of nice api's and whatever data needs to be exchanged is essentially exported and then sokebody else can receive the data and call e.g. `api.receive(data)` to advance their local view?
that way ppl could use it to build all sorts of apps that leverage this and use their own transport protocols.
that would be a really useful building block

I think the only cult type that Yud hasn’t spun off yet is fundamentalist Christian.
@BioMan @techtakes But singularitarians *are* fundamentalist Christians, just a heretical variety who ditched the god/jesus/bible bits but kept the rest of the eschatalogical structures intact.
Perhaps the bulk of SdFat.h's implementation of Microsoft's FAT filesystem is in the appropriate Volume superclass, which for FAT32 is split between deferring to a FatFile class & its FatPartition superclass.
That FatPartition superclass has a method for allocating new runs of blocks within a preconfigured range, by wrap-around iterating over all free blocks in the allocation table until it finds a free one. It may update the lower-bound of the range to save time next time.

Thinking about contributing to the p2panda project?
We finally published a Contributing Guideline and LLM Policy which hopefully will help!
You can read it here:

These are living documents of course, let us know if anything is unclear or can be improved.
@p2panda Great! Glad to see more projects adopting this stance :)
If theoretically all your parking tickets and towing fees amount to more than your car is worth, can you just buy your own car back from police auction

I know that Elon Musk gets a lot of hate on here, but hear me out.
I think we could hate him more. We have the capacity, we all just need to put in a little more effort.
@lowqualityfacts You mean the Dumbfuck Nazi dipshit F_Elon Muskolini, X Porn Artist and Swasticar maker?
Sure, I can lend a hand, happy to help - and pardon my French.
