Are they taking the piss?
@EndlessMason in the pants build tool we would have to deal with this whenever there was a remote hash we didn't have https://www.pantsbuild.org/stable/docs/writing-plugins/the-rules-api/file-system it means just recursively hitting the directory and it sucks
@EndlessMason the reason i'm mentioning this is because even if we use basic public-key cryptography to ensure authenticity, we would want to decentralize software distribution as much as possible anyway to avoid chokepoints or traffic analysis
Periodic offer to try to organize a trans group chat on signal about:
- parenting,
- processing issues with spouses or family,
- working-while-trans,
- oh-goddess-I-need-a-group-chat,
- or polyamory support (talking and processing, not looking for dates).
If you are interested, reply on this thread and indicate which you are interested in. My preference is for ya’ll to self-organize, but I’ll step in if I feel it would help.

@catsalad Some of us here & on bsky are making the slop enthusiasts cry with all our anti-AI sediment.
Come on, we're better than this.
We can make them bleed!

So look, I get that Harp is news because she's working in Dollar Store Hitler's administration but we are clearly talking about someone who is not mentally well here now, right?

@EndlessMason my big thing about checksums right now is that they're not granular enough for detecting changes and i think hash trees do that. git kinda technically has "hash trees" for directories but it's not exposed anywhere. iirc git does the same thing everyone else does where they just send the top checksum upon request. because of their incredibly optinionated directed graph model you don't really get the opportunity to match against hash trees

The view from our back garden right now
@welshpixie Again?!
If you live outside of the United States,
do you know if your country has a plan if the US government decided to cut access to Google, Microsoft, and Amazon products overnight?
What would happen to your work?
What would happen to your hospitals?
What would happen to your emergency services?
What would happen to your banks?
Imagine overnight, for all those public services and private businesses, no more Windows, no more AWS, no more Google and Microsoft office software, no more remote files storage, no more emails, no more online maps, no more videochats.
What would happen?
Is your country prepared?
@EndlessMason i have become less of a fan of compression for network transmission since it also really fucks with error correction and bandwidth is generally good now. but minimizing the space taken up by mirroring a repo is very very much a problem that interests me for the interests of our work at @SafeguardingResearch

Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) provide a decentralized & highly-flexible means of collaborative-editing! Allowing you to merge your changes as frequently or infrequently as you like, with any conflicts automatically handled. As long as they're encoded using CRDTs.
I'll use it in my Alonzo visual-functional programming language, because I need guarantees that Git doesn't provide.
They represent your doc as an inversely-linked tree of tiny edits, with metadata on whom & when.
1/3?
The key is to ensure that it doesn't matter in which order these edits arrive, you'll always get the same document out in the end. Hence that "C" originally stood for the maths concept of "Commutative".
However if we have each peer track its knowledge of the latest time it has seen from each of its peers (a "vector clock") we can combine that with the author's ID to break ties. Thus letting us consistently handle any edit!
We can use the latest edit we've seen from a peer as their clock.
2/3?
@saramg ooh that's helpful. In my case I'll be committing social suicide either way 🥲
@Gina Come to Iberia, we have pasteis de nata. Or ham in the other place I guess.
Who wants to go to Bruges with me? (No assassinations)

I mean the fucked part is it really could be about Watson's play - he's been ass since he signed that huge contract with Cleveland. But also? Brey, brey, brey - you are very lucky none of the masseuses wanted to press charges because you'd be getting disrespected in prison instead otherwise. Please retire. You should be suspended for life.
