Last night I dreamed that I was at the Canadian Astronomical Society annual meeting, and I looked out a window and saw a soccer ball sized meteorite hit the ground (didn't cause any damage, because *dream*). I ran outside to make sure nobody touched it, and to tell everyone that there is a whole building full of astronomers right there to help! And I specifically remember being really excited that I got to help deal with a meteorite rather than more space debris. Wow, brain. Impressive.
@sundogplanets years ago, before the pandemic, I had a dream that one could buy a satellite at Best Buy, and launch it from their back yard. I did that and had 4 of them in orbit tracked on my computer and then I woke up. strange dream.
I am wondering on this fine morning, how Tamas Sulyok's presidency will end today.
Will he resign? Will he sign his own ousting? Will he refuse to do either, and trigger the mandate stripping process?
🍿
I do not think he'll sign it, that would legitimize something he & Fidesz consider deeply flawed.
Resigning... he said numerous times he will not. In this case, however, he could resign in protest. I'm not sure he will, though this would be the most painless. But it would have been the most painless in April, too.
Not signing and not resigning triggers the mandate stripping, which does not change the outcome, but their narrative can focus on Tisza "abusing" their power.
I think he'll go with that, though I hope I am wrong.

I am usually celebratory when targets are hit inside Russia, but this morning I am not.
During the night, Ukraine has managed to strike several targets, which is great. But it appears there are fires in two different Wildberries logistics centers. One in Kotovsk, Tambov, and one in Elektrostal, Moscow.
The problem is, these are 24/7 operations and young civilian workers work in these facilities. Some of whom may be hoping for a better life without Putin.
Early reports claim that workers…

@randahl How many civilians has Russia killed?
Civilians die in wars. Russia shouldn't have started this one.
“Bullshit jobs are not just jobs that are
useless or pernicious; typically, there
has to be some degree of pretense
and fraud involved as well. The
jobholder must feel obliged to
pretend that there is, in fact, a
good reason why her job exists,
even if, privately, she finds such
claims ridiculous.”

All I want from the next version of MacOS is one single security prompt per application. Allow the app to request all the access it needs and then give me one modal to accept/deny/etc. The security theater loop does not help anyone.

Oh gosh this article makes me want to cry. Why does everyone keep printing what that awful CEO says without fact-checking it? https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-02218-9
I saw a quote in a different article where someone from Reflect Orbital said it was totally fine to look at the satellite with a telescope. Meanwhile, in their own FCC reply comment, they said that you could possibly have eye damage by looking at the satellite with telescopes 12 inches or larger.
a proper rant about CEO said a thing journalism

Requires a good proposal/application to be written.
And, right on cue, someone complains about my "political" posts not having a content warning.
Let me explain: fuck you.
@mattblaze fuck you too

Does anyone have a recommendation for extremely simple online invoicing software, suitable for people who are not great with computers?
(I'm in the US, so products that aren't in that market won't work, sorry)
