So a bit more explanation here!
There are currently 3 fuses on the board - battery input, debug power input, and DC-DC output. There are also TVS diodes on all 3 power rails for over-voltage protection which shunts power straight to ground which in turn should cause the fuse to blow during a sustained over-voltage.
I don’t expect the TVS to ever trigger, but having an early fuse in case of a short on the battery input is better than having a toasty warm lithium cell.
The debugger power input TVS I might expect to trip due to shenanigans on the debug port, and this one would make sense to be a PTC fuse.
The last fuse and TVS diode is on the output of the DC-DC converter, to prevent 5V appearing on the 3.3V rail if the DC-DC fails short.
Also, the device might end up going for a swim because it will be sticky taped to the back of a boat inside a water-tight case.

@matherion A brightly lit stage with pink and purple lighting features three seated people and one standing person. On the left, three individuals sit on high stools; one wears a striped sweater, another wears dark clothing, and the third wears a light-colored jacket and glasses. On the right, a person stands in front of a large presentation screen, facing the seated group. The screen displays the text: "Getting started with autonomy yourself... .. ...what concrete steps can you take?". Bright white spotlights are visible against the dark background of the stage.

Any #GCC folks know why the transparent_union attribute works in C but not C++? The motivating use case is for a system header, which exposes an API that needs to be callable from both C and C++ with identical code, yet it appears that this attribute has never worked in g++ (and is documented as C only). But I can't find any rationale for this choice.

Well that freaked me right out. I've had the same main laptop since 2017 and it's never spoken to me before. Just trying to open something and it said quite loudly "ONE SEC. WORKING ON THAT".
What is happening? Is my computer sentient? All this time. Oh my god. The things it has seen.
@TheBreadmonkey it was talking to itself and it had forgotten that you were there.

@dajb I think the only solution is exposure therapy: you must create more zines.

@chuck_wendig@threads.net ignoring both the ethics and the tech limitations (which we shouldn't, to be clear) I don't see the pitch here. Either I have a desire to read something super bespoke and I get "magic" to write the novel for me ('like Star Wars, but with more kumquats'), or I want to read the idea somebody else find interesting. In practice I suspect even the first option with working, ethical, tech would end up feeling unsatisfying but I don't see any world where I want to pay money for stuff other people wanted to automatically generate if I have access to the generating tech myself.
Was having a discussion with some friends about how we need to shift air travel traffic to rail. One of them then shared this graph. Which entirely derailed the conversation by how utterly disingenuous it is. My first reaction was:

Label your fucking axis!

But putting aside basic graph formatting fuckups. This graph, upon any close inspection tells you absolutely fuck all, whilst trying to support a claim that aviation is the fastest growing emissions sector

This graph is trying to show us that aviation is growing faster than other sectors. A fair point. And it's not a fact I'm gonna dispute. The problem is, it's massively overlooking context, and scale.
Aviation is typically ~2% of global emissions. Surface transport is about 17%, and buildings (heat, cooling, lighting), is about 25%. I've tooted on numerous occasions that I think environmental campaigners focus on aviation is misguided, but that's a topic for another time.

Otherwise, an interesting story.
@rjohnston spectacularly wrong...
