Modern Dependency Problems (with apologies and thanks to XKCD)
Probably needs more arrows, tbh
@algernon @jaypatelani Take a look at pkgsrc-wip: http://pkgsrc.org/wip/
It’s easy to get your package merged in there, and from there the road to pkgsrc is easier. pkgin packages are built from pkgsrc.
@jornane That's the plan, yep. pkgsrc-wip was recommended by the pkgsrc developer's guide too! :)
@technomancy ME TOO
@gnomon @technomancy are any c compilers safe from slop?

Reading the familiar refrain on here of how renewables make oil and gas obsolete, and choosing not to reply.
The reality will become clearer soon, though not soon enough
…The abundance of credulity and the dearth of curiosity and the enduring fantasies that spin off from that get me down a bit but I am getting a bit better at compartmentalising it
@virtuous_sloth Yeah, the Fediverse thundering-herd gut-punched it, seems to be running ok now.
@timbray Cool, that works for me now.
Thanks for the followup!
「 What LLMs in Debian development will do, I fear, is eliminate any incentive to scrap boilerplate or reform policies that require a lot of other senseless human effort. If I had had access to LLMs 30 years ago, I might have just had them generate the rules files, replate with complexity. So they will make Debian even more firmly what it is, and ever less likely to explore what it could become 」
@jbz good quote. I have already heard tech bros start saying “why would anyone create a new programming language when LLMs exist” so that whole vibe is starting to take hold

Read a poem.
@selfcare one of my favourites
@cstross @quixoticgeek @johnlogic @faraiwe would be a hell of a prank. Bring a tube full of water labeled DMM and drink it in front of everyone.
@cinebox @cstross @johnlogic @faraiwe I'd file that under arsehole behaviour. A good prank should not result in a hazmat response.
New updated press release from A/I available here:
This Is a Poem That Heals Fish – an almost unbearably wonderful French picture-book (but really work of philosophy) about how poetry works its magic https://t.co/sx0fP9aDax
@quixoticgeek @johnlogic @faraiwe Yes but only if the presence of DMM is confirmed. There's a more recent update suggesting the patient's blood samples were negative for mercury.

I know imax extra charges are part of how theaters survive
But fucking hell don't put one in if you can't reasonably soundproof
The air in the next room should not feel pressurized cause the imax is so loud

In a book published in Leipzig in October 1844 by Otto Wigand, a previously unknown type of man appears, one who to contemporaries seemed inadmissible and unheard, but who has since become perfectly familiar to us: the man who, as … Continue reading →

@jon can any train that isn't fully level access without aid from staff on the majority of doors really get top marks ?
@timbray That looks like a NYT newsletter that is actually hosted by a 3rd party (the URL redirects; I'm sure it is legit) and it is currently complaining of too many requests (9:55 PDT)
