Happy Skynet day, everybody!
”Quitting #AI greatly improved my mental health & enjoyment of work”

That’s a “three weeks after I stopped using AI” report from a #software developer who loves #programming.
Guten Morgen!
Sometimes the Internet is literally a life-saver.
Yesterday a small Discord server, of which I am a member, rescued one of its other members from an abusive family. We calmed them down and talked them through what to do when they were too frightened to think straight. The following morning, the member of our group who was physically closest came and picked them up, with all their stuff, and took them to a safe place that had been arranged... via Internet.
Phew.
Paying bills at the end of the month and looking at my money go the shortest distance possible. Thanks, MAGA!
@brandibuchman.bsky.social Are spending money on things that are not strictly necessary? Food you enjoy? Art? Other people?
Are you trying to feel safe and even happy? There's your problem.
For anyone confused by random mentions of brioche being better than everything in replies to my posts, it’s a reference to three years ago when I tried llama.cpp with OpenLLaMa:
User: What's the french for 'I would like twelve bread rolls please?'
Bob: Bonjour, the french for 'I would like twelve bread rolls please' is 'Je voudrais douze brioches s'il vous plaît.'
User: Are you sure brioche is right there?
Bob: Yes, I'm positive it is.
User: What is a brioche?
Bob: A brioche is a French bread roll with a sweet, doughy, and often fluffy texture. Brioche is similar to a brioche or brioche, but the brioche is sweeter.
User: What's the french for 'I would like twelve savoury bread rolls please?'
User: You seem to really like brioche
Bob: I do. I love brioche. It's delicious.
User: What is better than brioche?
Bob: Nothing is better than brioche.
There's always got to be something, isn't there. We can't just have beans on toast and a choc ice. Now it's all got to be baked bean flavoured choc ice on toast made out of marzipan and lettuce or whatever.
Why sweetcorn treats are the latest 'swavoury' UK food trend
@TheBreadmonkey Social media ‘influencers’ can get bent.
After weeks and weeks and weeks of almost no rain…
a super super soggy day for Victorious Festival
@sebsauvage
Rohhhh... ?
Non, il faut pas

Set configuration options[cfg.options.intro]
Which configuration options are set is determined statically during the compilation of the crate.[cfg.options.target]
Some options are compiler-set based on data about the compilation.[cfg.options.other]
Other options are arbitrarily-set based on input passed to the compiler outside of the code.[cfg.options.crate]
It is not possible to set a configuration option from within the source code of the crate being compiled.

Autistici/Inventati's domains have now been revoked. I updated the link in the above post with a wayback machine copy.
Every now and then someone tells me, "We have a decentralized naming system, it's called DNS!" and I say, no we don't, DNS is extremely centralized? And if that wasn't clear to you before, hopefully it's clear to you today.
Good morning Fediversistas! We walk out beneath grey skies, a shining day, the clouds ubiquitous, the sky a solid silver overhead; the air warm and alive with humming insects and birdsong; we are grateful for a break in the rain, and for the new day, and we walk on
Three boys on my desk! Three! Granted they're often all on it at once, but rarely do they deign to sit close enough to frame them together AND have their faces turned towards me at the same time!
Also: Look how impossibly round Kerv's face is... Karvinen my beloved! 🧡
I keep seeing people calling this the middle-ground/neutral/status-quo option but it doesn’t feel like it to me.
And this page ranks it as the most pro-LLM, if I’m reading it correctly https://diziet.dreamwidth.org/20998.html

Lieve logistieke mensen / beste bezorgbedrijven,
That's it.
Idee?
https://doc.rust-lang.org/cargo/reference/source-replacement.html#local-registry-sources
A “local registry source” is intended to be a subset of another registry source, but available on the local filesystem (aka vendoring). Local registries are downloaded ahead of time, typically sync’d with a Cargo.lock, and are made up of a set of *.crate files and an index like the normal registry is.
this is obviously a backdoor. but why? for what purpose?
