THE NORMALISATION OF NEO-FASCISM: ANTI-ROMA RACISM AT THE HEART OF EUROPE'S FAR-RIGHT SURGE
By Bernard Rorke
'Academic discussions about the inexorable rise of the far-right in Europe routinely overlook the extent to which anti-Roma racism is integral, and not incidental, to the mobilisation of aggrieved and resentful constituencies, particularly in eastern and central Europe, and the extent to which Romani communities function as an all-purpose scapegoat for the perceived ills of society. A review of anti-Roma racism by state and non-state actors over the past eighteen months, shows that there has been no diminution of one of Europe's oldest hatreds, and serves as yet another reminder that the far-right presents a very real threat to the safety, security and dignity of Roma in Europe.' >
a little reminder that George R. R. Martin should not be considered remotely an expert on literally anything but especially not medieval combat:
he claims that the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister was made to be wielded by a woman and is thus shorter and lighter.
historical longswords weighed 4lbs max, and usually rather less than that. women do not need special lithe girly longswords for their delicate wrists. women can wield a regular longsword just fine. there’s probably some women in HEMA who would like to have a very pointy word with Mr Martin for this.
This is a Ruckers mother-and-child virginal—a 17th-century keyboard instrument with a second, smaller instrument built into it, tuned an octave higher. The “child” could be pulled out to play duets or set on top of the “mother” to add a jangly, buzzing color to the main sound—a Renaissance-era layering trick, centuries before mixing desks. Antwerp instrument makers were doing this in the 1600s.

The Cat Motherships Arrive
@catsalad That's an ending I can live with.
(Yeah I know they printed the quote, but it sure as shit isn't presented as the reason why you should care. I just fucking hate pretend man, and in a society that sincerely gave a Ayn Rand-humping fundie fascist whackjob like María Corina Machado a peace prize, purely to sanctify further operations against Venezuela that Trump would make reality, pretend is all we have on offer it seems...)
The truth of the matter is the liberal establishment does not care that Trump coup'd Venezuela by kidnapping Maduro, or that he's stealing the oil to essentially pay out the oil companies that helped make him Swine Emperor. They're upset that he broke the deal with their carefully cultivated opposition movement and they've been cut out of the deal. And that's why EVERYTHING has to be filtered through the lens of what very specific "opposition" movement leaders think. It's all very grotesque.
