@jamiejennings your work remains incredibly inspiring to me. i have (to my surprise) had reason to return to my theoretical investigations of parsing recently, largely as a result of major practical and theoretical flaws in checksum and encryption processes. in particular, it remains completely unheard of for cryptographic tools to make use of the fact that 99% of their use cases are fixed-length messages in process-local writable memory and not completely unstructured byte streams. it's absurd and unserious not to make use of that structure, particularly when it's not difficult to describe a very clear group-theoretical rationale for doing so (i don't believe in "information theory")

@mlncn i can answer this one approximately - we've just recently gotten to the point where we're hosting a mediawiki instance for our _own_ use, and our tooling is kind of a hodgepodge of resources that we're going to tighten up any month now when we have some room to breathe.

between the day-to-day of running wikimedia infra and the effort of a union drive, i don't think we're likely to get into the hosting business any time soon.

Then, inspiration hit her. She ran through the idea internally before electing to voice it. It passed the internal monologue test, and it was time to commit publicly.

"I've got it...," she began, "what if we, simply, turned off the computer?"

His head slowly lifted, and he turned towards her.

For the briefest of seconds, it seemed as if she'd solved it. But, just as soon as the joy had begun to rise, it was brought back down to earth with a massive thud.

"But, the computer is how we look at cat pictures," he said.

"Oh right," she agreed. "Forget that then, we need those."

The thinking process started over, once again.
