@lykso in particular, we can construct this inductively, because a parallel directory traversal always starts from a single root, and proceeds fully hierarchically, so to begin we have no problems with open()ing a file descriptor for the root directory.
and it was at this precise point where i learned from the maintainer of musl libc (who had just recently implemented POSIX 2024.1's genuinely good decision to formalize posix_getdents(), which by itself makes a great deal of progress towards true transactional semantics for VFS operations in the filesystem
it also helped me greatly to motivate a radically different and highly experimental refactoring of this unbounded pseudorandom recursive unstructured parallel problem in terms of discrete actors operating upon fixed-size queues (which is essentially like a shell pipeline although the data flows over a kind of tetradron around the individual actors, as opposed to the extremely uniform sequential semantics of a pipe and/or ring buffer

There is a proposal for F-Droid to adopt an interim AI policy, along the lines of Debian's pro-AI policy.
I am not in favour of this.
In particular, I don't want to see genAI code in either F-Droid's own software, or in apps in F-Droid's repository:

On the 2nd September there was a Farewell reception for me, as I stepped down as director of IAS PBL (and back into a professor position).
It was a lovely afternoon with speeches I really appreciated and loads of interesting and personal gift.
One being custom made Pokemon Cards featuring me. The other featuring my candy innovation of the millenium ClickMix + Peanuts - now in a custom made box :)

@SnoopJ so, I was standing on the Washington St bridge last week with my very fancy camera, and a guy and his grandson were walking by. He stopped to talk about what I was doing and show the kid (Louis (LEW-eee)) what I'm doing with my fancy camera. Kid asks me if I'm a real photographer or if I'm just some dude with a fancy camera. I said what's the difference? Figuring I'm leading to the key question of who's an artist etc.
This kid, who's like 8 or 9, looks at me and he says: I guess what I'm wondering is if you're one of those people who buys a grand piano for your living room.
