That is what the US is attacking, and that is what is at stake today.
The premise of these sanctions, that whoever provides communications infrastructure answers for whatever anyone does with it, would criminalise and shut down most Big Tech platforms tomorrow if applied equally.
Instead it is aimed at grassroots services who refuse to surveil their users.
We condemn these sanctions, and we stand firmly with solidarity tech like A/I. Antifascism and anticapitalism are not terrorism.

Hi everyone. Yesterday, many #snac instances had a failure in the notifications area: accessing it was impossible. I have not much information about what the problem is, but it seems it's related to a specially crafted post that makes snac hang. If this is happening to you, and you have access to snac's disk storage, you can delete manually the files inside the notify directory of your user (they are a bunch of .json files).
Whenever I finally understand what is making snac fail, I'll publish a version that mitigates this.

How deep are tech reporters into Apple's reality-distortion field? When a report compares an actual product to an apparently upcoming Apple product this way -- the existing "Z Fold 8 appears to be quite similar to the rumored iPhone Ultra" -- you know it's really, really deep.
@dangillmor I have worked with Apple products at in depth level. I can understand if someone has been using Windows, Apple products might feel as improvement sorta. But tech reporters should know better.
But that's neither here nor there because the worst damage the free software movement did was in expectations.
The Free (libre) software movement seeded the idea that software would also be Free (gratis) and that anyone charging for a piece of software must be punished.
And, in the process, broke the only mechanism for funding software development that ever really worked, and replaced it with telemetry and advertising and surveillance and subscriptions.

I really don't think that's fair comment. I started learning about Open Source in the late 1990s, which led on to learning about software freedom in the early 2000s. I was downloading gratis software for Windows before I learned about either, as were most people I know.

@mattblaze I don’t know if citizens realize they can call their election office and get a tour and an education about the entire election process.
@Beachbum Usually yes (not formally, but they are overwhelmingly friendly), but right before an election is a very bad time to ask.

Anyway, if you want to *become* a real expert on election systems, I know of no better way to start than to sign up to be a poll worker with your local elections office. They need the help and you'll learn a ton!
