I want to know how someone could possibly look at a tomato and think “that would be amazing to drink - hot”
@jpm I have been pulling kgs and kgs of tomatoes off my plants and I cannot for the life of me figure out how they got to soup

@ami_angelwings Jernau Morat Gurgeh, from Iain M. Banks' "The Player of Games".
An expert in games of all types, they are sent to an alien planet which the Culture wishes to teach a lesson in ... well, *culture*. The civilisation is brutally repressive, racist and misogynistic and organises itself around a great game. Winning the ultimate tournament gives one the right to become emperor of the empire.
As racists tend to be, the Azad believe it impossible for any lesser race to win the game at even moderate levels, let alone the tournament. Gurgeh's job, of course, is to humiliate them by winning.
There is a story within a story as well, which you might figure out before the reveal, but will give you a big 'oof' when you do either way. The Culture is a post-scarcity anarchosyndicate which in short means anyone can have whatever they want whenever they want it, so citizens often make elaborate multi-level schemes to keep themselves occupied.
@evan I really enjoyed the early time in this poll where everyone was choosing answer 1 or answer 4, neatly dividing ourselves into perverts (affectionate) and non-perverts (neutral).
I mean Brey, I ain't lying - I don't know a single person in Michigan who voted for him. Not one. And I'm sure people in Michigan did vote for him, we got Nazis - but I don't hang out with Nazis, and "just Michigan Nazis" weren't enough to get him over in 2020 when he was trying to DQ the entire city of Detroit's votes cause of some unhinged conspiracy shit.
I don't KNOW anything but also man? I still can't explain how he got past 70M votes. His base was LOCKED there.
So... maybe he did cheat
Like, let's be clear right - we do know he WOULD cheat if he could, don't we? They did after all try a coup, they are after all rigging elections so Black people's votes don't count.
So it's not really a case of "he would never do that." It's really just a question of "can he do that" right?

Breaking News: Democrats Initiate Congressional Inquiry Into $1.8B Slush Fund
"The American people and the world just witnessed one of the most brazen acts of public corruption and self-dealing in American history. The DOJ recently announced that you settled Donald Trump’s sham lawsuit against the IRS, a collusive lawsuit in which the President sued an agency under his own control on preposterous and repeatedly debunked theories."

I coach a youth robotics team.
The robots are programmed in #Java, on the #Android ecosystem.
Looking for suggestions for good, short courses in Java suitable for high-school aged humans (15 to 18). Paid courses are fine too.
I'm looking for practical, "do some short assignments" type of course so that keen students can get up to speed quickly.
(Java is NOT my choice here, and I personally don't love it as a teaching language but making the robot do stuff is very motivating!)
