"Two House Democrats voted to rescue the Republican legislative agenda as GOP leaders faced an internal revolt, a rare crossing of party lines that pushed a key procedural vote through a closely divided chamber. Democratic Reps. Jared Golden and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez voted with most Republicans to set up debate on a series of GOP-led bills, including a resolution condemning socialism that can be used to hammer Democrats on the campaign trail":

@RonSupportsYou @renewedresistance Gluesenkamp Perez is just the worst. So-o-o disappointing on every level.
@smallcircles @grimalkina +1 to this talk! I’ve quoted it in my dissertation and will show it to students when I have students.
That is great! Note that @bret is on the fediverse, though not very active here, and has a metric ton of highly inspiring works on various websites..
I wish this was out already! It will be just in time to include it though (Sep 15) so that's promising:

Might add https://mijente.net/blog/take-back-tech-with-joy-and-resistance/ to the readings, and 'The tech worker movement and the rise of the tech oligarchy' https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3757671 by @ludens et al; and Cella Sum's #CSCW paper from last year is great https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3757671

I think the best thing in my life is my grandmother taking me aged 5 to the local library and getting me signed up. It led to a lifetime of reading, buying books and in retirement library books. All those stories, biographies, different worlds , always at hand. Thanks grandma Mary
Proper etiquette dictates that if you ever run into three raccoons in a trenchcoat, you should pretend they are just a regular guy. Obviously you know it is 3 raccoons stacked on top of each other. It is a terrible disguise. But they are trying their best, so please just play along.
@lowqualityfacts What happens if it’s four raccoons?
@elettrona
Hai assolutamente ragione.
Comunque amen. Volevo semplicemente capire se, stando sul fediverso, mi fossi persa qualcosa senza volerlo.

August 31 - Da Beach, Portland...
🚨 WHEEEEEEERP 🚨
I DID A RUN!
*crowd goes wild*
*hundreds of single roses thrown from all angles onto stage*
Well.... I am pretty pleased that happened.
--------------
Boring bit...
Signed up for 8k group to stretch myself (6.25m/km) which is something I can now do, but it depends who I'm running with. The hardcore runners do 9k (5.55m/km) which is beyond me by some distance. However when there's no 9k group, the fast beanpole thousand-yard-stare dead-eyed marathon runners go into the 8k group, invariably making the pace quite a bit less forgiving, even though they don't mean to. So I made a bit of a joke about this and moved my name into the 7k group. Then ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. A very nice lady I like very much who is very small and old but with the power and energy of a hundred thousand suns within her, got quite cross about this and felt like I was being bullied and if those bloody fast runners didn't accommodate me and run at the correct pace, she would wreak a bloody path of vengeance upon their asses. I said I really didn't mind and didn't want to be the one person struggling at the back, but she forced me into the group and apparently is now bringing it up at the general management meeting. I therefore felt terrible about this and joined the 8k group against my will, ironically bullied into it by the terrifying well-meaner, which meant of course my running arse was well and truly kicked tonight. But I did it. Even if it was the very upper limits of my ability. It's all mental anyway because actually that's naturally the pace I do parkrun, but there's something a bit different when you're out on the mean streets of West Wickham and Beckenham, tackling very slight inclines and whatnot.
End of boring bit

Wow that was boring and self-involved. I do hope you didn't read it. And if you did.... What are you doing with your life? However I think you look very nice tonight. Your skin looks amazing. Can I smell you? Would you mind if I have some of your hair to put on the shrine I have in my basement with photos of you plastered all over the wall, lit by a hundred candles? It's not weird or anything. X
@TheBreadmonkey
🎉 Nice! You live to tell the tale in as many words as were dropped down the back of the sofa. 🏅

@sjvn ohhh my goodness 😹

The image is of a painted indigo blue conical “mountain” there is a red sun (or moon it’s circular anyway 😹) to the left of the “mountain” .
On top of the “mountain” is a white spblob (splotch/blob) of white that you usually think of as the snow… but it is actually a happy cat with all paws extended around the top of the mountain & their little ears sticking up into the sky.
The sky/background is a orangey yellow.
No, we're not renaming it. All map data in Organic Maps comes from the OpenStreetMap project.
@gbargoud names are the problem with doing a youtube, i have to look up how americans pronounce their own names or their placenames and they're never not bizarre

I am increasingly tired of hearing Republicans call Denmark and other countries "socialist", and using that to scare voters away from the idea of universal healthcare.
The very think tank which defined Trump's transition plans, the Heritage Foundation, ranks Denmark's economic freedom 7th in the world.
The US is ranked 22nd.
Who are the "socialists" now?

@randahl Can't wait until Americans find out that the taxes they pay each year actually pay for the roads they all drive on to get their next drive-thru Shitebucks. That's Socialism, baby!

I remember years back noticing when he (or his label) finally backpatched titles onto those albums. I mentioned it to the guy at the record store and he said that fans had had to resort to using catalogue numbers to specify which album they wanted, so this was a huge improvement.
(Honestly, what would have been wrong with "Volume 1", " Volume 2", and "Volume 3"?)
@suetanvil I know they got called by their album covers informally. I wasn't sure if they ever got official expanded titles.
The funny thing about him thinking of them like magazines is that magazines are ephemeral. Nobody buys last year's magazine, they just buy the current issue. That doesn't seem like a healthy way to view one's music.
God forbid women have hobbies
@jalefkowit it's always “prostitutes scam you” and never “men who force women to have sex with them get what they deserve”
