As the year ends, so much thanks to @Deglassco for critical history threads that fully restore the principle of intellectual mapping to citation. Read these again and again.

the south park creators, even if they've done something laudable
edit, i guess this was actually one of the writers, not creators--anyway i was making reference to someone buying the domain name for trumpkennedycenter: https://consequence.net/2025/12/south-park-writer-owns-tump-kennedy-center-websites/
LOL when I posted this i did not even realize stone and parker are in a labor dispute with performers at a restaurant they own?!

Did you check out the fine work of @stefan who manages the Botmakers Community at https://botmakers.org
If anyone can suggest good places, It is Stefan and others from this community.
A well-themed instance that may be worth checking out is https://cyberpunk.lol - But before creating an account I recommend to check with @vantablack upfront to see if there is a good match.
@ajroach42 Berne is what always trips me up and makes me overwhelmed when trying to parse PD status of such films. I revisited the Hirtle chart to simplify this just now, and I guess it's the final bit that's important here? "Solely published abroad, without compliance with US formalities or republication in the US, and not in the public domain in its home country as of URAA date." I guess the URAA date was January 1st of 1996; I don't think I'd ever fully absorbed the importance of this before and wrote the whole topic off as too complex to comprehend, but I'm probably missing out on a ton of cool stuff!
@LeoKirke I hadn't revisited this specific chart in ages.
The URAA date is Jan 1 1996 for most countries, but not all of them.
That's a wrinkle I frankly always forget about. I also always assume that we subscribed to the rule of the shorter term, even though I know we actually don't.
It's also a nice reminder that all published international works expire 95 years from publication in the US (for now) even if they're still under copyright in their country of origin.
Honestly, most people don’t understand immigration. To or from anywhere. Pity they get to determine the political climate for whether other people get to leave war zones, climate disasters, genocides, especially people who are in those situations because of the first group of people in the first place.
though some searches reveal disturbing news of human remains found in a freezer in Tempe, Arizona, which is unrelated to standard appliance use but highlights extreme scenarios
@molly0xfff I do admire how Google AI is always trying to be cheerfully helpful.
Look I never said, I'd close the lid.
Meanwhile, DOJ wants to push the first public hearing for accused pipe bomber Brian Cole past the date (January 5) when 5-year statutes of limitation would expire. legacy.www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

That's how Russia's theater director dismissed criticism of reopening Mariupol's Drama Theater — where Russian bombs killed an estimated 600 civilians in 2022.
The word "CHILDREN" was painted on the ground so Russian pilots could read it. They bombed it anyway.
Workers used chlorine bleach to mask the corpse smell during reconstruction. Russia blamed the odor on "rotting fish."
