There are days I drop words of comfort on myself like falling leaves and remember that it is enough to be taken care of by my self. ~ Brian Andreas

I didn't even know AI could ruin math, but somehow it did
as long as 2 + 2 = 5, there will be nothing to worcester about.

LMAO hey @trib @phs @ausfestivus et al volunteer emergency responders, is your initial response going to be “let the fucken thing burn”?
@jpm @trib @phs @adamshostack yea pretty much what everyone said. Responder safety > public safety > plant/equipment > surrounds.
I haven’t seen any fire fighting org that has come up with a mechanism to quickly and easily extinguish a battery in thermal runaway.
Let the fucker burn, stop it from spreading, limit contamination, get some good photos, share em with the meme-team.
This is where we are. A homeless man has a stroke that damages his speech and mobilty while sleeping ubder a bridge. So Health NZ discharges him in a hospital gown to a charity not funded to support him. What. The. Actual.

@bernardchickey.bsky.social yup, this is not acceptable for our society.
We report: our expert is too busy catching up on solar weather reports to deign join us for the sunset - it appears that they had missed the news of a minor geomagnetic storm. Down here, even through the highs and lows of atmospheric pressure, the storm clouds pass quietly.
What I admire most about those close to me is the sense of integrity they have towards themselves, their whanau, and their community... that and their ability to find joy in the most unexpected things.

@djsundog @ajroach42 oh that I don't know, a number of the daily broadcast soap operas were popular radio plays, so they've been around longer than the medium
@alexisbushnell Well done!
I made a cover with straps for my existing wheat pad and they really help when standing up and moving around.
@Gulleko that's such a smart idea!
I mean, to be fair to the tech industry, if you had invested $1.5 trillion in me over the last three years, I also probably would’ve failed to produce AGI and committed a bunch of crimes.

@ajroach42 world’s longest running reality television franchise. I’m calling it.

so the power to the PC was cut earlier, who knows why, where, what, or how? it just was. luckily the PC is back up.
either way, the internship was awesome. I actually got to take apart of a computer. well, that was before the after school thing, but I got to actually feel the insides of a computer, the ram sticks, the storage/hard drive, etc etc.
the actual internship was mostly boring stuff. my boss had literally nothing for me to do because he couldn't get my user account setup on proxmox (VM software) and didn't know how to set a password for me so I ended just helping kids get their cyber security lab computers setup.
I wrote about why the AI labs make for lousy messengers about AI safety — and about why we should take them seriously anyway https://www.platformer.news/openai-astra-warning-alignment-monitoring-pachocki/
@caseynewton Looks like a great topic, I'd love to read it if you could shoot me a link in a DM.
I think AI critics need to be more involved in safety conversations as well, instead of just trying to ban it. Generative models as presently constituted will never lead to AGI, but they are clearly demonstrating that they can be digital monkey's paws sometimes.
Because the endgame is every prisoner in isolation totally addicted to the only social voice left in their life -- the therapist/tutor/sexworker on their tablet that was trained on billions of dollars of compute to better make them docile/addicted/compliant.
@rechelon I suspect also that the people providing this stuff won’t care if it occasionally wigs out and worsens prisoners’ existing mental health conditions (or gives them new ones) to the point where they harm themselves. Because the carceral system is already a serial killer.
@alexchapman Fantastic. I will touch on that after my Mac session. Thanks for being quick.
@tonygeb23 No problem.
