Again, Joe Biden picking Merrick Garland, Republicans' preferred Supreme Court pick who couldn't even get a confirmation hearing, over Doug Jones, who sent members of the Klan to jail and beat a pedophile at the ballot box in Alabama, as Attorney General was a Compromise of 1877-level mistake.

it's always amazing to me when i learn people are still on facebook and x, contributing to those whole things.
@jbigham sadly, the San Juan Islands run on FB Groups 😮💨
@ben oh my bad. considering riseup has already been subpoenaed and complied (they turned over all disk data including emails), that they continually are outspokenly supportive of antifa/anarchists, and this recent move, i think they're next on the chopping block
i would make my moves with that assumption with regard to their usagw
@xyhhx Oh, I agree. Frankly I assume most of us who are adjacent to liberatory tech and social movements will be on the chopping block before too long. And Riseup are (laudably) outspoken.
@xyhhx Ah. That wasn't actually clear to me from your post. The second para implies that Riseup has been formally categorized as terrorists too, which doesn't appear to be the case.

It's not raining but it's too cloudy to see the moon. 😞 #Montreal #LunarEclipse
@evan I can see it from Dorval!
Fifty three years ago I started the day as a child and ended it as a mom. This was the first photo of me and my daughter. We both still had our hospital bracelet on.
The hospital where she delivered never even gave me a room. I was left in a hallway and discharged about eight hours after I arrived. As an unwed mother I didn't warrant a red carpet welcome. I paid them $250 and went home to the room I rented in an old Victorian house. Obviously there were holes in the wallpaper but we were warm and safe and we were living within our means. I was fourteen years old and ninety eight pounds.
I'm sharing my story because it shows all good things are possible.
My daughter turned into the best kind of human.
It wasn't easy but I have zero regrets.
True grit was never personified by John Wayne types but by regular people surviving against the odds.
Disappointing the doubters was sweet consolation.
She gave me the gift of grandkids too.
I've had a good life.
So far.
@strypey the NZ bean situation is an issue. Something about irradiated beans seems wrong and they never seem to cook properly for me.
Peas? Yes, but they don’t seem to TexMex well. Limes, chillies and garlic? Yum!

The very idea of irradiating food gives me the ick, on multiple levels. Have you tried buying bulk dried beans from organic shops or ethnic grocers (eg Indian/ Chinese)?
I have to admit, since I've been back in bachelor mode, I've mostly been subsisting mostly on canned beans. I just don't have the spoons these days to manage all the soaking/ pre-cooking that dried beans require.

I haven’t been to the RMIT TAFE library (building 94) in 20 years and back then it ruled because they had G4 PowerMacs with unlimited access to AARNET’s fat gigabit pipe. Today I’m back and they have monitors, keyboards and mice to dock your laptop with! This is fucken sick
anyway, time to learn about whatever the hell a grobner basis is supposed to be
oh and i'm learning about grothendieck's schemes. i wanna scheme together with alexander grothendieck please

@ben correct. if you read my post you'll notice i am already aware of that

but the fascists get to cheat, so:
(Obtaining these random samples requires only
O(log n)steps.)
i promise you, these people write the absolute worst, most garbage code imaginable and really think their success is because of "intelligence".
they hate asymptotic analysis because it provides a shared language to communicate computational requirements across math and science. it doesn't take into account being a very special boy who can do no wrong

let's rephrase what they claim their slop turing machine is doing:
- generating a random bit string within the values of
[1, n], mtimes.
that requires touching memory up to size n in length. they even go so far as to specify they're not generating numbers, but bit strings. if you want that to be within the space [1, n], you will be touching n memory cells.
this is a realistic memory bound too, btw, that's how bignum arithmetic works!

#Eclipse happening right now. Go outside, look at moon. Just took this pic. It will be at its maximum in 15 minutes or so.
