oh yeah i forgot about this paper https://www.cs.ru.nl/E.Verheul/papers/Joc2004/joc2004.pdf it basically makes the argument that you can get smaller keys and faster execution by using the XTR approach of stuffing a cyclotomic polynomial into your diffie-hellman without translating to an elliptic curve (because that's basically all ECC is doing)
i'm not terribly sure i buy it yet but only in the sense that there are now a few separate problems to solve here. for a CSPRNG i'm hoping to identify a safe way to scrape a few bits off of repeated squaring alone (so that if you observe a complete cycle of all my random bits, then you can determine my start state, but this is useless to you since that state will no longer be used)

I need the power of the #fediverse : For an upcoming presentation I am looking for examples many people will understand where the software caused consumer electronic devices not to work anymore.
E.g. company decided not to update the software which caused the device to stop, company disappeared and e.g. servers not available and therefore the device did not start anymore, etc.
Currently interested in some fresh examples I could use. Any pointers?
