In my humble opinion, many instances of ‘writer’s block’ are in fact ADHD or autistic burnout. Writing as a job is more forgiving of neurodivergence than most, so many writers are basically subsisting on caffeine and anxiety until they hit a brick wall and their executive function collapses

Which would mean that reading up on neurodivergent burnout is more likely to help get over a writer’s block than the fluff you find in books or blogs on creativity

@djb @dgerard It' could be undermined by Linus's tolerance of AI slop in the kernel, and by other upstream projects accepting LLM code, notably (to me) vim and pandoc.

The unknown original provenance of code generated by LLMs means that many open source projects may soon be in violation of their own license terms.

Here's a pattern that keeps happening:

1. Malignant actors within or entering a community cause problems for some of the people there.
2. The victims talk about it, because they need to, and have a right to. Sometimes they put up practical boundaries to defend themselves. They certainly make it clear who's victimizing them.
3. The original malignant actors pull a DARVO and accuse their own victims of "dividing the community."

This depends entirely on a credulous public, or at least that community having room for a credulous mainstream inside of it. If you have any context, if you read any of the victims' accounts, the sham is clear for what it is. But the flow of information on the internet can be like one of the big plague cities during the industrial revolution: there's always more people just showing up with no immune response.

I could have posted this any time in the last decade and it would apply to a different thing, but today I'm thinking about some bad takes I've seen about Codeberg.

I was a little nervous to link it because I don't want it to lead to some particular person getting martyred on social media or whatever, especially since we already have a pretty ethically sound playbook for dealing with pro-LLM people: create spaces where they don't have access to, explain why they're locked out, then don't budge on boundaries. Or, in a word, disassociate. It's not that mean, despite this exact strategy being exactly the thing Armin is complaining about, because the intent is not punishment of bad actors but protection of good ones - the latter is what we should be consistently centering.
