@jeffjarvis Publishers won't lose many sales from me. I discover pretty much everything I read from bookstores, because I'm already following the author, or from Mastodon recommendations. Are they really getting any readers from Google search anyway, now that it's thoroughly enshittified?
The amount of money that the effective altruists can just spend on all their "research labs" and think tanks to influence (tech) policy is really baffling.

Huge news from Greece: after years of campaigning by local residents and environmental groups, plans for a fossil gas terminal in the Pagasitikos Gulf have just had their Environmental Impact Assessment rejected. It is a powerful reminder that people power can block new fossil fuel infrastructure and push Greece toward real solutions like clean renewables instead of more gas.
There have been a bunch of "moderate" AI pieces (including a few that I have boosted) that have objected to being tarred with the term "slop", and I think there's a real effort right now in the AI booster camp to define the term as an explicit *judgement of quality* — i.e. "this is bad, and it was made with AI, so it's slop" — which retroactively allows every "slop" discussion to center around subjective evaluations of quality / merit / utility etc. For me that's not really what the word means.
@glyph thinking of how the boosters created the term "vibecoding", it immediately became a signifier of low quality, so they tried to define it away. the term they invented.
