“The closing of the Hormuz strait is a bigger event than portrayed by most mainstream media.
Not only did the US fail to beat a much smaller nation – one that has been operating under crippling economic sanctions for years and plagued with internal turmoil – into submission, they effectively sabotaged the world market, destroyed all of their alliances in Asia, and destabilised the petrodollar bargain all at once”
Maybe we'd use the extra monitor to display slides to an audience? To see your aquantences in a videocall? To preview the video you're editing? To watch, or stream, others'? Or, yes, to mirror your screen?
In these cases we've got a compressed video we can stream off your harddrive or the internet over the low bandwidth (by video standards) USB2 connection to the extra monitor. The bootloader would output a brief looped video asking you to use DVI instead, for a direct GPU connection.
2/3?
The monitor would supply a description of its postprocessing pipeline, whether implemented in hardware or software, & which parameters you can tweak. Any program could tweak these, but I'd include a settings pane so you can.
The brightness setting would be automatically adjusted as a warning that the computer's about to fall asleep. Maybe a pseudo-sleep mode keeps USB alive to play the video?
Settings are configured via SETUP packets, & video via OUT packets as described by the pipeline.
3/4!
So before I buy anything, I wanted to know how much I can do with just two 100W solar panels I had lying about and a ~300Wh battery I built myself from lithium cells. Well, turns out, quite a bit!
Not only did the solar panels kept my home networking (internet modem, wifi access points, router, switches, about 20W power draw) running all day — it charged the battery full and it lasted until the morning, zero grid power used — half a kilowatt saved.

Today, the Norwegian Court of Appeal unanimously rejected the European Arrest Warrant issued by Greek authorities against Aegean Boat Report founder Tommy Olsen.
The court concluded that the acts described by Greek authorities do not constitute criminal offences under Norwegian law, and further found a real risk of violation of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights — the right to freedom of expression.
The ruling goes far beyond a technical rejection of an extradition request.
[...]
The court’s decision is also a reminder that criminal law cannot be used as a weapon against those exposing unlawful pushbacks, violence, and abuse against people on the move in the Aegean Sea.
Despite years of pressure, investigations, threats, and attempts to silence our work, Aegean Boat Report will continue documenting what is happening at Europe’s borders.
We will not stop.

💸 Microsoft, Google say their data centers create thousands of jobs. Their permit filings say otherwise
「 The facilities on average offer about 90 positions, and some have as few as 20. Former workers and local campaigners told Rest of World that most of the positions are in security and cleaning 」

@jbz These folks don't realize that they can't gaslight Americans on this issue anymore.
But they can still brute-force all the approvals, tax breaks, and eminent domain seizures.
And they will. These rural counties all voted for the authoritarianism that's being mobilized against them.

Hilarious to me that Drake started his album with "I need to reckon with my demons and grow up" and then proceeded for the rest of the album and the other two he simultaneously dropped not, in fact, reckoning with his demons and growing up.

Thank you for being so honest.❤️
The policy proposal is actually Anti-AI:
- a ban on most (not all!) generation of code with LLMs
- using LLMs for private review of code is always allowed
- (a lot more very specific points I won't summarize here)
It is nuanced to an almost painful degree.
Thank you for being so humble. 🙏
I occasionally get sucked into this "social media herd mentality" as well. It's sometimes good to just take a step back.

@bagder Doesn't https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/-/work_items/new?type=Issue&initialCreationContext=list-route work ?
but I agree that gitlab UI has become horrible since their shift to full AI
@EvenRouault it was not clear to me that work items are issues/bugs. I had to actually click the "new item" button first to get something that says "issue".
It's a horribly user-hostile UI.
