@alexchapman @seedy60 so now i'm having to use my logitech k780 for now until I get a new one, or a new laptop or whatever comes first. lol.

I suspect Musk knows that. But do the mugs?
@OneInterestingFact @BoydStephenSmithJr no. It's all greater fool theory.
“Google developers significantly misstate carbon emissions of proposed UK datacentres | Google | The Guardian”
> Emissions understated by factor of five
Why it's a mistake to take claimed environmental impact of data centres at face value

Is Cillian Murphy a good perso-oh we weren't thinking the same thing at all
I want to stand behind her yelling CHEW YOUR FOOD
@TheBreadmonkey @Nickiquote @LDJ She turns her head 180 degrees and starts firing hotdogs at you like a human cannon
@OneInterestingFact @BoydStephenSmithJr exactly. Orbit is a stupid place for a datacentre.

@quixoticgeek Not to mention the pilot project is in the middle of a deep valley of the Jura mountains, hence shadow + the region is prone to a wet summer climate due to regular showers and thunderstorms by Foehn effect (first mountain range from the Atlantic), as the promotional picture indeed shows.
The quoted 16000 kWh/year means the average production rate is a whooping... 2.5h/day.
My friend is home visiting family in Ballyclare and just sent me this photo of the pickled onion range available at her local shop 😂
@TheBreadmonkey This just gave me an idea. Print a bunch of stickers like these and stick them in random jars inside the fridges at my friends' houses.

What is the term for the solar equivalent of a gadgetbahns or disability dongle? Sticking panels between the tracks is a stupid place to put them. It's noisy, messy, hard to clean, & railways are safety critical infrastructure. You'd get much better use out of solar panels putting them on the roof of platform shelters, & other station buildings
Maybe once every carpark, warehouse, & rooftop is covered in solar, we can think of using the space between railway tracks. But for now. It's a gimmick.

And, to return to an earlier theme, slightly more in earth orbit. Going to make cooling those orbiting data centres so much fun.

@TheBreadmonkey Wow, you really are Tooty McTootface, aren't you? I have 11K, and I am way too tooty.
I'm just messing about - the total posts counter includes boosts aswell, which I'm very trigger happy on. I think it's a nice positive thing for Fedi. Or.... incredibly annoying to everyone. But let's say it's the good option. 😂
@quixoticgeek uuuuuh don't the toilets flush out to there?
@Huubje only on older stock. And EU regs mean that dumping human waste on the tracks is becoming rarer now, it's been a long time since I was on a train which did so. It was banned to protect the staff doing maintenance.

Probably a rough year for the Board of Tourist Industry
@BoydStephenSmithJr essentially yeah. It varies of course across the planet. But panel rating is based on 1kw/m², and typical efficiency is about 20%.

This is one heck of a thread, about one heck of a threat.
@neil yea f this
Anybody I know have experience with OpenCollective? I’m interested in trying to move elementary to a more community/nonprofit legal structure but I’m trying to wrap my head around how expenses work. Like how do I actually pay out digital ocean? Does some individual need to pay first and get reimbursed? There’s no direct way to pay expenses?
