@CarlWatkins hmm I should watch the VHS of this
@thomasfuchs Probably the superior easy to watch it. I don't think you'll miss the extra 30-40 minutes they add into the director's cut 😂

it's finally happening (today I hope, but lets see how much of a pain in the arse it is to implement)
i think i'd like to start publishing it on the web too - email is just getting too unreliable these days - need to think about how to lock it down so only paying subscribers can access, but also not having to use a bloated CMS that locks me in to that platform (i.e: Ghost or Substack or Beehiiv)
@nixanadoo @sinituulia High risk, high reward!
@catsalad @sinituulia always, always worth it
When you maximize the ability of humans to determine what info, ideas and art gets the most attention, I think you better society as quickly as possible. I trust us to collectively manage our selfish incentives well when power is widely distributed. Fully connected while not allowing anyone to be harassed into silence, must be our goal.
@wjmaggos i'm skeptical that maximum attention is a measure for value. even if all humans could discover and evaluate universal information in negligible time, you'd still see the wrong things getting attention. it's not purely a distribution problem, and it's not simply perverse incentives, either -- well-meaning people allocate their attention incorrectly all the time.
The English language needs a word for the rage I feel when the company that makes the pants I like discontinues them.
@evacide May I suggest -Enshittification?
English yes but I'm not sure it can be used outside Mastodon. I learned it here.

@tholindeth And when wolfram alpha made mistakes, they were fun, and still usually technically correct!
Proper member of society ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
All I'm saying is that if you believe that your problems are caused by:
"1) technologists, 2) that are genocidal maniacs, 3) and that allocate most of society's resources"
then maybe focus on the "genocidal maniac" part, or the "most of society's resources" part, before the technology part.

For those reasons, having a new Idempotency field, separate from the activity ID, seemed like a better idea me.
.
outboxes are supposed to ignore ids and generate their own (although this could be changed)
in HTTP you could use a header like Idempotency-Key and in fact this is something the Mastodon API uses for idempotency since the id won't be known until minted server-side. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Reference/Headers/Idempotency-Key (The I-D expired 3 weeks ago, but it's an okay approach)
even if you don't know the eventual id, you could suggest input material for it using the Slug header https://blog.cdivilly.com/2016/03/01/slug-http-header

@weirdonwheels new project for you @Kels_316
@WataruTenkawa_1 @David it's pretty taxi-heavy at any time of day (source: I regularly cross that road). It sits between Kabukicho and the commercial district on the west side of the station. Lots of commercial delivery traffic during the day. I guess there's a good chance any private vehicles will be heading to Isetan or Takashimaya or one of the other commercial establishments with carparks.
@cluelesstoshika @WataruTenkawa_1 Thanks to both of you.
