*sigh*
I don't know if I am capable of being independent. It's a fear I've had pretty much since I was diagnosed, but I've been noticing more and more entirely necessary, normal parts of life that I just get paralyzed trying to deal with.
.... It'll be fine, I've been able to keep a job down and all the things but...
can't make the what ifs go away.
@davidgerard you need a ghost writer
@demon6 can you imagine trying to write like me
Age verification sounds reasonable until you realize it means every adult hands over their ID just to go online.
We wrote about why this is a terrible idea and what should happen instead.

@protonprivacy It's a step way too far. They'd control all data for everyone. Everything is online, your family, friends, employer, bank, house, shopping, doctors, the lot, and it's only getting worse. Everything has an app, whether it's needed or not & you're simply expected in 2026 to be online.
But they could cut you off for any reason. Lock you out of everything. You'd be more at their mercy than you are now. All because they have your ID linked up.
It's alarming that's not too far fetched.

my agent is nagging me for a book again, just an outline and three good chapters david, give me something i can sell
she is of course correct. i write several hundred words every weekday on a topic i know well and explain to normal people enough they really like it.
hundreds of thousands of blog words is not a book, it really isn't. maybe it points in the direction of one! but aaaaaaa
last time I tried the AI book it was late 2024 and I assigned myself a pile of homework in TKs littering the text and I was *bored*, bob. and if i'm bored guess what the reader will be.
i need an idea sufficiently compelling it drags me along with it. this means it probably has to be a bad idea. that's fine, i can do bad ideas super well, it's a success formula any abyss diver knows.
"why don't you write about" well yes your idea sounds nice but does it COMPEL me, that's the secret factor here bob
* no actual bobs yelled at in the making of this post

It must be spring, my great pyrenees appears to be budding
What vacuum cleaner do you use in your home?
As I study GRUB, & as my explorations of how I'd implement internal storage has my considering the boot process for my hypothetical...
I'm thinking: What does a boot loader do?
Primarily it renders a menu asking which OS you want to boot, without depending on that OS already running. The tricky part is the latter!
Secondarily it provides tools to help you recover in case your operating system isn't booting.
Earlier stages of the boot chain (from your hardware vendor) provides drivers.
One can learn many things at #FediForum. For example, about Rebollita, a soup from Tuscany, which is apparently @ivan's favorite food.
Does that recipe sound about right? https://www.themediterraneandish.com/ribollita-recipe/

Leute, geht in eine Gewerkschaft
gäbe es nicht das Risiko, das meinem Chef, das missfällt ? Und Konsequenzen hat ?
natürlichen wäre dies, bei der aktuellen Politik, absolut sinnvoll !!
The book is very angry inside, you can feel the author's frustration with just how much the world hates truth. Stupid old Einstein what does he know.
@tomjennings @domi General relativity is just a THEORY, after all. Like, just your opinion, man.
Good God I am being micromanaged by someone who doesn't know what "a tree of arbitrary depth" means
"NONE OF IT SHOULD BE ARBITRARY"
No, like... I am bragging about how flexible my solution is, using words a college freshman should be able to understand.
I wonder if a computer scientist who understands what's possible & a marketer who can get people excited... Could get an intuitive visual programming language to take off?
I really get the sense that the plain text aesthetic programming has always had turns people away, perhaps another aesthetic could help people realize that they can write their own programs?
@tomjennings @mattblaze this book looks like i wouldn’t want to sit next to the author on a bus, that’s right

Very cool indeed to see @manyfold’s FASP support get referenced in @tchambers and @deadsuperhero‘s review of ecosystem progress on the 7 Fediverse UX sins. Proud to have been a tiny part of the improvement 😁
