@kattekrab hmmm ABS microdata labs might be a good place to do the research, but you need someone enrolled in a PhD or already an academic demographer to get access (ACT Govt was willing to sponsor me to access it as an NGO researcher but I accidentally got myself made a Minister before it could be done).
ABS could theoretically track people who were in the Census, but are not anymore, and for whom there is no death record (they get death data from each State/Territory monthly). Because all those records are identifiable, so you could track through both datasets at a population level.
It’s more reliable an indicator of where “home” is than just looking at departures and arrivals through Home Affairs (if they’d even allow a researcher to access identifiable data). Someone might be living OS but still visit here regularly, whereas in the Census a person can still be listed as living here even if they happen to be OS temporarily on Census night.

There are consequences from lack of regulation.
IMHO we should have banned Crypto currencies. Most every expert warned about the consequences if we did not. Now we are dealing with Crypto companies, with plenty of cash on hand, buying crooked politicians as well.
We should have banned user profiling for ads and content algorithms. We did not and we live with the consequences to our societies and democracy.
Now the AI companies them selves, kind of like the social media companies, are asking to be regulated, as they seem unable to stop them selves. What to do?
Oh, that's neat! It was a *looong* time ago but when I was a kid, I had a book similar in nature to what yours seems to be except that it also contained ghost and conspiracy stories. It was mostly factual, scientific stuff so the challenge was figuring out which was which. The book was where I first learned of the Tunguska Event but for many years I didn't know whether it was a real event or not - which was maddening lol! I'm looking forward to reading yours!
Yeah, that is part of why I started doing Loose Ends in the first place! There were so many unsolved mystery books, sites, videos etc which mixed together fact and fiction, and that just ruins the real world stuff. (Either that or they switch over to being 95% about gruesome murders 😞 )

This is only one scenario of the many surveillance nightmares we might hear about in the coming months and years.
