We ended a disease that killed 300 million people in a century. We're bored by it.

@Daojoan Turn it up a notch: We live in an age where people are resentful of the miracles we have and seem to want to reverse them for fun. Weird times.

@Daojoan What really worries/scares me is the possibility of live smallpox existing in graves in melting permafrost which escapes to cause a pandemic.

@Daojoan I _will_ read the article shortly, but just now this makes me think of so many risk-based decisions I've made in my day jobs. I take special effort to avert big problems (good processes, quality, engineering, well-grounded decision, whatever), and nobody notices, because the attention-grabbing emergency didn't happen.

I have the scar. When I first got my Covid shot my doctor commented that they don’t give them anymore and hadn’t for decades. I said that proved to me that vaccines work.
I hope it doesn’t make a return like measles but at least I am vaccinated and won’t be spreading it.
