We can’t educate our way out of a culture of rape because the problem isn’t one of *ignorance*.
The problem is that some people—mostly cis- and heteronormative men and boys—have been recruited to accept their own subordination in a hierarchical system by rewarding them with power over even-more subordinate people—mostly women and children.
The people involved in, for example, the Cornell case would not have benefited from more education about consent because they were not ignorant about consent.
At best, they do not care about consent. At worst, the violation of consent is the entire point. That power is their reward and due for upholding a hierarchical system in which they themselves are ruled and exploited, but gain a modicum of power over even weaker classes of people.
