What, then, is the saddest english-language non-animated film of all time?
Thought "The Road" (2009) was really sad. Maybe "Camille" (1936) takes the prize.
@mastodonmigration Oh, I don't know "The Road". I will check in to it.
"Camille" is very good, and terribly sad. Maybe I should consider it, but it's hard to take a 1936 film and bring it inside yourself?
@mastodonmigration Or, you know, maybe I'm just an ass-clown. After all, the greatest film of all time is "Casablanca", from 1943(?), all b&w.
Maybe *I* am the problem.
That would not surprise me.
@GeePawHill The Wind That Shakes the Barley?
@pierrotechnique Whoa.
An *obscure* choice.
I doubt even a tenth of our audience has seen it.
But *I* have.
Stunning film.
And yes, very very very sad.
@Uair Right up there in the top ten, no question.
@GeePawHill The saddest I've seen is On the Beach, the Stanley Kramer one. I'll have to watch Midnight Cowboy sometime because I love sad movies.
@frog Oh, fuck, "On the Beach" is *hella* sad.
@GeePawHill THERE IS STILL TIME.. BROTHER.
I seen a lotta sad movies, I have, I did, I done do that.
But my vote is "Midnight Cowboy".
I got, don't get me wrong, I got lots of candidates, and many honorable mentions.
But my actual choice is "Midnight Cowboy".
@GeePawHill It has some animated elements but "A Monster Calls" is the first one that came to mind for me.
@fullywoolly I don't know it. I will look in to it.
Shouts out, don't get me wrong, I ain't a hater.
"Old Yeller",
"The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter".
It's like, good holy christ, we're talking *inches* here.
@GeePawHill I don't typically do sad films. That said, I thought "Dancer in the Dark" (2000) and "Midnight Express" (1978) were both quite sad.
