I went with a second hand Pixel 8 from backmarket.co.uk which should give me a few years of latest Android versions, be fine for testing at least! More money I’ll never get back 😂

I’ve finally got a couple of mobile apps on the go but want to target #Android and of course no idea about that… so need a phone. Anyone got a recommendation for the cheapest option there that’s good enough for testing? Second hand options are fine, but I think I need the latest OS, and I’ll never make my money back on this.

@robeeshepherd it's the defacto privacy-oriented android firmware. @GrapheneOS

@robeeshepherd @joshdinsdale Google apps and services can be installed on GrapheneOS as regular sandboxed apps. You can test both with and without Google Mobile Services on GrapheneOS.

Devices without Google Mobiles Services are increasingly popular and apps should fully work without it. Many popular mainstream apps do including even the Facebook app suite.

There are alternatives to Google services. For example, apps can default to FCM when present while offering UnifiedPush as an alternative.
