It is wonderful to see that not all businesspeople are cowards.
Virgin's Richard Branson:
@randahl can we not? what's with this 2016-tier Facebook Democratic Party propaganda?
Awesome. But—I thought he died in a balloon crash or something. Shows what I know.
@randahl He's not a coward but he's still a dick
Brandon should do this but with lotsa billboards, myltiple websites, donations to political orgs, until he is lower class.
I mean we fucking are.
Just making a post is something idiots like I do.
Great good for you. Its a little cringe.
@randahl
Okay, that's good to hear, so we'll eat him last then!
@randahl @briankrebs One critical difference between Branson and the US billionaire oligarchy: Branson doesn’t live there. After Virgin Galactic cratered, his business ventures in the USA are a minority of his activities. So Trump doesn’t have him by the short-and-curlies.
(There are plenty of things to criticize, as with almost every billionaire, but he seems to despise fascism and religious fundamentalism.)
@cstross @randahl @briankrebs wasn’t he in the Epstein files, though ?
@fazalmajid @randahl @briankrebs Yep: he invited Epstein to visit and offered him PR advice after his first arrest. It’s unclear how complicit he was, though, as he isn’t known to have visited Epstein island. Epstein, like many abusers, sought out famous people to provide cover for his nefarious activities: I think Branson may have been one such.
@cstross @randahl @briankrebs Also Branson’s businesses are at direct risk from any expansion of Russia’s war.
@cstross @randahl @briankrebs The real test is how much Virgin Group de-risks its exposure to US-based IT and financial platforms. (The Trump admin basically has root on a lot of EU and UK companies, and CEOs are more complacent about this than makes sense)
@randahl Branson could sell everything and keep a hundred million bucks to live comfortably on for the rest of his life and fund Ukraine building about 50,000 drones.
How we say that in German: “Tja!…”
@randahl I would also love it if British people would stop using Americanisms. "Step up to the plate" is a baseball metaphor.
@randahl Please be gentle penetrating Virgin's reasoning. It's as precious as a newborn 99% agency.
Remove the .01% from power.
@randahl I'm always amused to hear people talking about billionaires as if they were a special sub species of human. A billionaire is only a human turns into given great financial success: an a**hole. It doesn't matter how you get there the perception is always:
- it was all you
- you of all people deserved it
- you're better than the rest for it
Its a human thing. A lot of them started as decent people. They all turn eventually. It's just a matter of time and circumstances.
@randahl Then again, I must say, from his record, I wouldn't trust him. And since when has there been a 'Free world', anyway? The US has always been a colonialist, interventionist, fascist-supporting, money above ALL ELSE, state (It learnt well from the UK, and then added some). Freedom to do what the Americans want, I suppose...
@randahl From Branson, not something you would hear from the current tech celebrities:
Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don't want to.
@randahl What exactly is he doing precisely?
