I signed up to give a talk at a university event call "Taste of Research." Literally the only reason I signed up was because I thought it would have good food.
Reader, I just found out there will be no food at this event, and it's basically TED-style short talks, which I have to use a specific flaky cloud-powerpoint template for.
I have so many regrets.
Good news: there's a special "invite only" reception beforehand and they will feed me!
It scares me a bit how much those years of living way below the poverty line (with a baby) during grad school/early postdoc has made me ALWAYS seek out free food.
Did experiencing that make me a better person? Yeah, probably. Do I think others should go through that to "build character" or something? No.
Academia really sucks sometimes.
