It's amazing how late some people were still using this Beta VCRs
@thomasfuchs I remember seeing blank L-750 tapes in stores in the late 2000s and being surprised. Gotta hand it to Sony, though, for the incredible support they gave it.
@thomasfuchs @probnot I had The Matrix (still have) on VHS and never got the DVD until... this year, I think. Because I have it on VHS and still have working VCRs
@howtophil @probnot I mean, whatever floats your boat, but DVD quality is like twice as good as even the best VHS, Blu-ray is 6 times better than DVD and 4K Blu-ray is 4 times better than Blu-ray; so you can get that movie in a ~48x quality improvement over VHS. (Worth it!)
But I also do occasionally watch a VHS, sometimes it's even the only available format for some really obscure stuff or it's extremely appropriate (e.g. The Lawnmower Man on VHS)...
@thomasfuchs @probnot Yeah, there's not much practical difference to the human eye between 1080p and 4k, people can't see in 4k (last time I checked the studies)
As far as watching VHS, a commercially made VHS looks more than fine while in motion, and if you're freeze-framing a movie all the time... I think that's a you issue /shrug
@probnot Sony made new blank cassettes until 2016 btw
