I hate Matrix chat so much.
Every now and then, some nerd explains why we should all be using Matrix for group chat. It happened a lot with the E2EE project.
But Matrix is what you get when you leave the engineers alone in a room for too long.
Its “everything but the kitchen sink” design philosophy leads to over-built garbage. Meanwhile, *basic things* are fundamentally broken, like unread counts.
UNREAD COUNTS, for fucks’ sake. Until that works right, using Matrix is absolute torture.
@benpate I really want matrix to work, I really do... but man I _hate_ using it.
They need some UX designers to take over product development for the next decade.
When KDE was at its worst, I could still enjoy the user experience, but matrix is another beast. I get such weird problems in both android and desktop versions of element that I don't even know where to begin.
The other clients aren't even on my radar, because last I checked none of them could do calls.
O really want Matrix to work, too. The concept is perfect. The execution is awful.
LLMs don’t have a monopoly on awful UX.
So the next time someone complains about the quality of LLM-generated software, I’m going to remind them that Matrix was created purely by humans.
