If you are on an escalator or moving walkway in an airport and you are standing on the left (or worse, in the middle), you are a bad person and you should feel bad about yourself. You are, by definition, in a place where many other people are in a giant fucking hurry. Come on. We live in a society, dickhead.
@pluralistic in Australia we stand on the left, only a few of us are dickheads.
You said it correctly "we" live in a society.
This means that they should respect you and you should respect them.
And by definition, an airport is a place where aircraft take off and land, not where people are in a hurry.
When I buy my tickets there is a notice informing me that I should be there 2 hours earlier.
I understand your frustration, I also hate blockers, but apart from asking them to move I cannot change their mindset.
You also live in a society, adapt :)
@MagentaMold Apparently you are unfamiliar with the phenomenon of delayed connections. People hurry in airports because they have hard deadlines that are hugely consequential. It has nothing to do with "getting to the airport two hours early." I could have been *ten* hours early for yesterday's flight from Winnipeg to Toronto. It wouldn't have many any difference as befits the extremely tight transfer I had to my London flight due to delays.
"An airport is a place where aircraft take off and land, not where people are in a hurry."
This is among the most wrong things that anyone has ever posted to social media, going all the way back to the Friendster era.
Congratulations, take the day off, you've won the "strangers on the internet talking utter nonsense" prize.
I was just correcting your airport definition, you are very welcome.
Also, if you are offended by others' opinions it doesn't mean you are right ;)
I am very aware of bad connections, I just happen to understand what living in a society is, more than you do.
People staying on the left might be left-handend, or coming from a different culture than yours, or just don't know better.
Asking is the first thing you should do, not insulting people on social media.
Good bye, stranger.
@pluralistic
Some studies say that it's actually more efficient and safe when people stand on both sides. https://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/research/whats-best-escalator-etiquette-stand-or-walk
@pluralistic Don't get me started on mfing lane discipline.
@pluralistic bad hip. 2 suitcases. I'm standing. Fuck off.
@JohnCrowden 2 hip replacements. A suitcase. Late connection. Stand to one side and let other people get by, or you are a selfish, entitled, thoughtless prick.
@pluralistic Try taking escalator in metro and you will quicky start to rage about people NOT using left half. With two escalators going up I am stuck in a long line because three people want to do their cardio on both of them.
@pluralistic
In Japan it's becoming "just stand", with even some occasional purposeful blocking https://livejapan.com/en/article-a0006054/
Also watch out with the dickhead - some people can only hold securely on one side - an accessibility issue.
@pluralistic stand right, walk left. It's really not that difficult a concept folks.
@pluralistic Tokyo-style = stand on the left, walk on the right.
Osaka-style = stand on the right, walk on the left.
@pluralistic
Walking MAY be faster for the walking individual. However, on a packed escalator standing still moves more people per unit of time ... because walking people take up more space.
@pluralistic Also, I get that looking at your phone & walking on a regular staircase is difficult, so in the same kind of locations, if you're on the stairs put the fucking thing down, dickhead.
@pluralistic I agree; nonetheless, when I read your post, it was suddenly in a Zoidberg voice.
*if you are standing on the non dominant side in that location. (we stand left, pass right)
@pluralistic My experience in Australia is that standing on the left works very well, both for the reasons you infer, and for reasons of local convention.
@pluralistic I thought it was stand left, walk right?! Tbf, I'm usu zipping through, weaving as nec, so maybe I've got that crossed.
