Plus if you're on Interrail you can always pretend you don't have roaming & the train's WiFi is broken.

@EndlessMason Ha, fair point. Essentially there are two related issues here - how do you make this work for you personally? (The point raised by @mfritzn ) And then there’s the wider point for @cycling_on_rails @moof @quixoticgeek and especially @q - how is this really supposed to work, in terms of standards?
And at #OpenTransport2026 this week the latter ought to be the prime concern I think.

@moof @EndlessMason @quixoticgeek @q @jon Also, I don't see the flow of buying a PDF ticket via a website or a third-party reseller going away. Nor forcing all third-party resellers to have a dynamic app with periodic refresh.

@cycling_on_rails @moof @EndlessMason @quixoticgeek @q @jon On Android I find it useful the to disable WiFi and mobile data. If there is a slow connection available, the app tries to fetch the data seemingly without a reasonable timeout.
If you disable your internet connection, it directly loads from cache.
